Lethal Weapon SO1EO4 Recap

0

“Crazier than a sack of cats,” is indeed an accurate description of Riggs, however in this episode he did show he has a cool collected side. Murtaugh on the other hand showed he could be just as crazy and lose as Riggs, with landed in therapy.

It was revealed in this episode, that the reason for Murtaugh moving out of his old neighbourhood was to get away from all the crime. Also giving his son access to better school was a plus, so he was very upset when a string of robberies started taking place near his home; some may say he was a bit too upset.

This episode had more heart in it than any of the previous instalments- watching Murtaugh deal with Riggs after finding out about him picking up RJ was interesting to watch. On one hand I understand being protective of your kids, but Murtaugh’s fear was somewhat justified, (RJ and Marcus were pulled over by a white cop, most of us know what could have happened)

In the end however, Riggs was just trying to help out; the way Murtaugh reacted, going so far as to punch Riggs in the face, was really uncalled for.

Seeing Riggs as the cool and collected man this week was funny in its own little way though.

Avery: You know, as much as I enjoy you both sitting there with your mouths shut, you two need to bury the hatchet. And, I can’t believe I’m saying this: get back to being your usual pain in the ass selves.

Dr. Cahill certainly knows how to handle these two by now though. I really liked how she acted like the grown up between these two guys as they bickered like children. Anyone who was keeping up with the show certainly knew that a counseling session between these two guys was going to happen eventually, and it did not disappoint.

“There Goes The Neighbourhood” really showed how just like how Murtaugh likes going back to his old home ground for the community love, he and Riggs need to be honest and talk to one another to achieve that level of harmony and trust.

SOME SPOILERS AHEAD.

This should have been the first episode. It serves as such a good season opener. “Flashpoint’ should have been last season’s finale or a two hour special during the summer or something. Anything besides this season’s premiere. Now it feels like the season’s begun. Now it feels like we’re going somewhere. Last week was a pointless filler episode that did hardly anything and was underwhelming. This episode was much, much better.

the-rivalI wish we got to learn more about the new timeline’s Edward Clariss; see his normal day to day life and who he was as a person prior to his acquisition of speed powers, so that we understand fully why he wanted the powers to begin with and qualify his statement that he always “felt like something was missing.” None of anything he did or said in his first encounter with Barry meant anything without that kind of context to frame it. He was just saying things and he was a bad guy just because.

It’s not clear if he will show up again, but even if he was just a villain of the week – for two weeks straight – that kind of character development would still be appreciated. And if he does show up again and is a larger presence this season, then hopefully his character is fleshed out more.

A team up between The Flash and Vibe is something I did not know I wanted until it happened. Yes! More please! Fingers crossed that we actually do get a bit of that this season and whatever it is that Cisco has to work on (tech or his emotional healing), the show doesn’t take too long to get to the point where they team up on a regular basis.

killer-frostAnd maybe someday Caitlin gets in on the action too? I figured we would see her go Killer Frost when they were discussing Dr. Alchemy’s ability to give people powers. I suspected that that would be how she acquired them, but it simply being because Barry altered the timeline works too.

I assume that’s how Wally will become a speedster. We saw you looking at him Barry!

I want Caitlin to become Killer Frost but I don’t want her to become a villain. Can she remain a good guy please?

And of course telling everyone the truth about the altered timeline was exactly what Barry needed to do in order to “fix it.” Why it took him so long to come to that realisation is beyond me. As was his refusal to tell Team Flash anything. Even more so when he told Felicity so easily. I don’t understand why he didn’t want to tell them.

Forcing everyone to have dinner together is not fixing it Barry. That’s meddling.

He really doesn’t learn and I wish the writers would stop writing him that way. Obviously going back in time, yet again, was not the way to fix things, Barry. Every time he uses time travel to fix something it goes terribly wrong. He was supposed to have learned that lesson last week. He say he’s learned, but he really hasn’t. If he had, then he wouldn’t be making the same mistakes over and over again.

Random Thoughts:

  1. Felicity: “Oh my God, it really can affect us.” We’re all just as surprised as you are.
  2. What did Barry do to earn Julian’s ire?
  3. JUST TELL THEM BARRY!
  4. Is this it for real now? Did he finally get his kiss with Iris? Is this going to be erased too?
  5. Can we stop with the “our love transcends timelines” cheese fest?

The Flash airs Tuesdays at 8 PM on The CW.

Useful Phone Applications: 1st Edition

0

Every year, new flagship products are released onto the market for consumers to feast their eyes on. Whether it is the newly released Samsung Note 7 (R.I.P), the semi-modular LG G5, or the Apple iPhone 7, which itself promises to be an interesting step back for Apple. However, over the years consumers have become slightly informed about their purchases after noting that smartphones are only as good as the applications that support them. Hence the demise of Blackberry and Windows phones. Limited compatible applications led to a decline in sales, leading to our current state of affairs, where both companies have so little market share its almost negligible.

Which brings us to today’s review of two (2) applications that enhance the usability of our phones. It is often the case in Barbados, that after purchasing a new device, we install WhatsApp and Facebook and we call it a day not fully utilizing the power of our phones to help in our basic everyday life. So today I am here to change that, and hopefully open your eyes to some true gems of applications.

Inbox by Google Inc.

Most of us already use the Gmail client to take care of our email needs, but what about those who need more flexibility and pizazz- when it comes to our interactions with our emails. This  is where Inbox by Google Inc. comes into play- a Gmail client that has been enhanced with several specific options to filter incoming emails, and deliver a cleaner, and arguably more productive interface.

As seen to the right, Inbox by Google Inc. is built first and foremost with ease of use in mind. The influx of emails are handled and sorted into tabs, which are easily found by swiping to the right in the application – making it easier to find exactly what is wanted, when it is wanted. Using colour specific icons for the tabs also add to the unique feel of the app, encouraging new users to feel more at ease with the slight learning curve required. It is also important to note that the application learns from user habits, thus in the short and long term, it becomes even more efficient with its handling of your email needs.

Tabs are called ‘Bundles’ and are by default, the ways in which the application chooses to deal with your emails. In my investigations, I found that the default setting for the bundles worked quite well. In some instances, there were emails that did not fit a particular area, however as mentioned earlier, the application learns from the user’s habits.

Returning to the main part of the app and swiping right on an email would mark it as ‘Done’, removing it from normal view. Swiping right however, brings us to another key area in Inbox- the ability to ‘Snooze’. This feature allows the user to set specific times and or locations, of which to receive select emails. For example, are there certain emails you only ever want to see when you reach work? Or don’t want to be disturbed after hours by annoying emails from promotions? These can now be set as options.

This application has been well made by Google. It is not perfect but can be used comfortably for those who want more for their emailing needs, and Inbox certainly delivers more in spades.

Periscope by Twitter Inc.

Periscope by Twitter Inc. would be the result of that “fateful” union between Snapchat and Twitter. Yes it is as simple as it sounds, however the application of the union is interesting. Unlike Snapchat and Twitter where there is a time limit and word limit respectively, Periscope has no such barriers to tangle with. It is a live streaming app developed by Twitter Inc. that broadcasts streams from the mundane, albeit “interesting” lives of some of its users, to more important streams that deal with specific topics that offer varying levels of interest. Like twitter you can follow your favourite users and be notified in an instant when new content is ready to be viewed.

Users interested in finding content can search by usernames or expand their horizons by searching the global map provided in the application for other broadcasters. After doing some brief broadcasts, I found this feature to be a pleasant experience, since having the choice to make broadcasts public or private was a welcomed addition.

Make no mistake though, as of August of 2015, Periscope has had over ten (10) million new accounts, and from that number approximately over two (2) million of those use the app daily. Social networking junkies and fans alike will have plenty to like with this fairly new broadcasting application. It easily reaches the world wide platform of which is important in this socially driven era.

Watashi ga Motote Dousunda E01 Recap *Spoilers Ahead

Kaetan desu! (*≧▽≦)

2016-10-11-18
7×5 OR 5×7?

The opening scene of Kiss Him, Not Me goes to a high school where a volleyball match is bring played in P.E. A spike is nailed onto the opposing team’s court by an athletic Igarashi, one of the class’ good looking guys. He then high fives Nanashima, an equally good looking guy for his setting skills.

2016-10-11-28

In the background of all the cheering girls, we meet our heroine, Kae Serinuma, who is so busy fantasizing about coupling up the two that she doesnt notice  Nanashima running after a high ball in her direction. He crashes into her, knocking her unconscious. Kae wakes up in the infirmary with her classmate and best friend Amane at her side. After  a quick reminder of the preceding events, Kae tells Amane who she affectionately refers to as A-chan her reasons for not moving quick enough. They start fantasizing and discussing about who would be the seme, and likewise the uke in the fictional relationship. Kae then gives a self introductory narration to herself, a second-year in high school and a self-proclaimed otaku and fujoshi. As Kae and A-chan talk more, Shinomiya, a first year health committee student walks in and asks her to free up the bed since she’s feeling better. They encounter his tsundere personality but Kae ignores it and uses the opportunity to fantasize about it with A-chan.

This is my way of life!!!!

A-chan and Kae then come across Mutsumi a third year who asks how she is and then A-chan makes an observation that Kae has this strange connection with good looking guys to which Kae seems to be oblivious to. At this point, all the guys have been introduced. i already have favorites *drool (in both ways). On reaching the classroom, Igarashi makes Nanashima apologize for crashing into her, which he reluctantly does. He then ruins the moment by calling her a human cushion but Kae is the bigger person and says she was glad to be of use. She then fantasizes to A-chan about it after they leave, which freaks out her best friend just a bit.

The day is at an end and Kae and A-chan go home to watch their favorite show Mirage Saga. As Kae watches, her favorite character Shion dies and it sends Kae hysterical. This is a feeling that i can relate to. It’s sad when a character you like doesn’t win or they die. However, I don’t know if I’d shut my self up in my room for a week. A week goes by and Kae hasn’t come to school out of shock. Her mother begs her brother to do something, so he breaks down her door and pulls off her covers.

Kae gets up and goes in the bathroom, looks in the mirror and discovers her newfound look from all that time of not eating and loses it! I laughed so hard at this part!

2016-10-11-22

Kae finally goes back to school and all of her classmates are hysterical at how good looking she became. Igarashi pulls her away from the overbearing crowd and blushes when she thanks him. Nanashima stares in awe at her and tries to play off his attraction to her. He ends up making Kae run out of the classroom crying, not because of his statement like the class thought, but because of his likeness to Shion…………What?

2016-10-11-24

Kae is so busy running while thinking about Shion that she bumps Shinomiya into at a corner. When he sees her face, he takes her hand and insists that she goes to the infirmary. On arriving, they discover Mutsumi nursing scratches from a cat he was trying to rescue from a tree. Kae tends to his scratches and realizes that Mutsumi was the only one that recognized her  right away and he says it was because of her kindness. Aw! *Blush! Igarashi asks Kae to go to a movie with him on Sunday but he is interrupted by the other  boys. The next day, Kae finds herself at A-chan’s borrowing clothes for a date with Igarashi. Unfortunately, it turns out all the other boys invited themselves. We also find out that A-chan has a boyfriend who is unaware of her fujoshi status.

2016-10-11-31
Stareeeeeeee…..

Kae meets the boys and they go into the cinema to watch a no surprise, a romantic movie! Almost immediately Nanashima falls asleep from boredom on Igarashi’s shoulder. Kae immediately forgets about the movie and focuses on them so much that she doesn’t remember anything afterwards. She excuses herself to go and clear her head. On her way back, Igarashi tries to steal her away to take a photo but he is caught by the others before anything can happen. Can we just talk about the scene when the photo prints and she is going nuts and then tells herself off? This show is too much!

2016-10-11-32
A national treasure! Humanity’s pride

They then head to a fast food and karaoke. All this while, Kae is trying to suppress her inner otaku. By the end of the day, she is worn out having being pushed to her limits until she hears Mirage Saga limited items are on sale. She then has an inner battle between her normal self and her otaku self until she finds out there’s only one of the items left. She then forgets everything quickly leaves the boys and goes to buy the item which turns out to be a body pillow. She apologizes when she returns and confesses that she’s an otaku.

Although they seem to be taken aback at first, Mutsumi says he accepts that she does something that she loves and she seemd like this was the happiest he had ever seen her all day, so he preferred her like that. The others suddenly decided to agree with Mutsumi when they saw how Kae responded to him and they let Kae choose where to go next. I love that Kae let her otaku persona spill out immediately afterwards.

The next day Kae is telling A-chan what happened, which brings the first episode to a close. That was good! See you next week!

The time has finally arrived

Kaetan desu! (*≧▽≦)

The team arrives at the venue for the finals of the Miyagi Prefectural Qualifiers match against Shiratorizawa. The girls’ volleyball team comes to cheer them on and Yui Michimiya, captain of the girls volleyball team gives Sawamura a sports charm. She says its for the team, but I could tell how flustered she is. Meh! Teenagers!

2016-10-11-1
*sigh can someone PLEASE bring them back to reality?

Once inside, Tanaka is a little taken aback by the amount of people and Nishinonya reminds him that because their opponent is Shiratorizawa, that there will be a big crowd, and they overhear some girls saying that they (the volleyball players) always look so much cooler when they’re good players. Ryu has  a eureka moment and both him and Nishinoya are in this dream world where they are adorned by hundreds of fan girls. They then start getting hyped and Sawamura yells at them to shut up as they’re embarrassing the team.

2016-10-11-2
“We’ll never let him call us ‘grounded crows’ again”

Hinata meets up with some members from his old team in middle school. Izumin and Koji see Kageyama and immediately worry about Hinata, but he manages to explain how everything is alright now and that Kageyama is no longer that person from that match years ago.  The third years also come across an old man that came to their match when the were freshmen and called them ‘grounded crows’ and they have a bitter moment.

The past alumni and all the peers of Karasuno High are at the tournament and make up the cheering section. The vice-principal, who we initially remember as not being a good sport in the first two seasons, is now surprisingly all gung-ho, because of the attention that the school is now getting. He tries to hype up the other students with a cheer chant, However, because they only practiced it for a little after school, the students seemed unenthusiastic and out of sync.  On the other hand, Shiratorizawa’s cheering section is definitely organized and sounds like a powerhouse school and they waste no time in intimidating those from Karasuno.

2016-10-11-3
Let’s face it, this is so typical of Karasuno that it’s quite sad now

Back to the court, the severity of the nervousness has increased and the team members are having panic attacks and the alumni wonder if Karasuno is really going to be okay in the match. Tanaka’s sister catches what looks to be a suspicious person but he secretly announces himself as Tsukishima’s older brother from season two. He is here secretly as Tsukishima told him not to come, but he came anyway.

The members of the Shiratorizawa volleyball team finally enter the court and begin warming up. The scene skips back to right after the previous matches. The team is tired but Coach Ukai holds a countermeasure meeting based on the findings of the two managers, Kiyoko and Hitoka. Among other things, Ukai talks about how the ball is set really high to  meet Ushijima so that they can absolutely gain  a point. Shiratorizawa intends to come bulldozing through  the guard without thinking about it once. Back to thesent, the teams switch over so that Karasuno can warm up. As they begin, we finally hear the first set of dialogue from the Shiratorizawa team.  One particular member that we meet is Tsutomu, the enthusiastic first-year regular. Tsutomu is the prospective ace to take over from Ushijima and has lots of expectations for himself and is clearly fired up for this match.

2016-10-11-4
That aura he is giving off though

The warm-up is over and the starting ceremony for the match begins, but not before Takeda and Ukai gives the team a pep talk on how even though  Shiratorizawa may seem untouchable,  that they are still human and will make mistakes so just take note of their characteristics and play their way. Since it’s Karasuno’s first time in the finals, it’s also their first five-set game. The alumni are clearly worried about the team’s stamina. The alumni also make an observation that the starting layup is different to usual. Karasuno has put their best blockers up front to test Ushijima’s spike. That layup will also have to deal with potentially strong servers.

2016-10-11-7
The game hasn’t even begun yet and they’re depressed for the team.

2016-10-11-10

The match finally begins with Sawamura serving to Shiratorizawa. Of course, the first setup from the setter Shirabu is to Ushijima. Tsukishima, Azumane and Kageyama for their wall but Ushijima sees past it and spikes down towards Nishinoya. Now, Nishinoya is no stranger to crazy spikes, being a libero and I’m going to go out on a limb here as Nishinoya’s fan and say he makes some damn good saves. However, even Ushijima’s spike proves to be too much and although he does make contact with the ball, Nishinoya is unable to control it effectively and it bounces right off his arms and offside.

Nishinoya appears taken aback at first, but then he switches it up once he realizes this won’t be any ordinary seems match. He gives off an excited smile. That marks the end of the episode and the beginning of so much more! I’m super excited to watch the rest!

Westworld S01EO2 Recap

0

And so the plot thickens.

Yes this week’s episode of Westworld revealed more strings connected to the overall plot, which seems to be hinting and deeper narratives to come.

In this episode, Dolores is being told by a gentle voice to “Wake up,” and “Do you remember?”

She is being haunted by this unknown voice, and she has no idea why. It raises a very important question for us the viewer- How can something that is not “alive” have such thoughts? After all, she is not a human, only an artificial creation. Yet it seems she is developing somewhat of a conscience. Even more importantly it seems she is not the only one, for Maeve Milay also seems to be remembering small snippets from her “past”.

“Can you imagine how f*cked we’d be if these poor assholes ever remembered what the guests do to them?” asks programmer Elsie Hugh- which is also the question I started to ask from the very episode, just what immoral depraved acts are allowed to be done to these hosts.

The new visitors to the park this week are William and Logan; William is the shy and timid guy who his outlandish first Logan decides to introduce to the park in an effort to loosen him up. A host greets William at the station upon his arrival and tells him once simple thing

“How far you go is entirely up to you.”

The Man in Black makes his appearance again this week- this time around it’s revealed to us that his is a veteran to the park and spent years playing a gunslinger. So its obvious he knows this world quite well, thus he has gotten bored of it.

As the Joker in the Dark Knight once said, “Introduce a little anarchy. Upset the established order, and everything becomes chaos…”160819-westworld-s1-blast-06-1920

That quote perfectly embodies what the Man in Black is about- he wants to figure out the secrets behind the park, so he has decided to upset the order of the park to find his answers.

Behind the scenes the Westworld programmers are as always tweaking the personalities behind the hosts, even bumping up Maeve Milay’s aggression and emotional acuity.

It is my opinon that it will only take one more episode or so for Westworld to fully hit its stride, the subplots are starting to branch of while the main plot is slowly and surely revealing itself.

Westworld airs on HBO on Sundays at 9pm.

Once Upon a Time S06E03 Recap

0

SOME SPOILERS AHEAD.

Once Upon A Time Season 6 Episode 3

The character we flashed back to this week was Cinderella. The story was fine, I guess, but it wasn’t particularly interesting. It felt pretty rushed and for a story that is so widely known, I didn’t think it was necessary to start from the point of them being invited to the ball. It could have just started from the ball itself. Also, since the story wasn’t even about Cinderella and was also about Clorinda – arguably far more – it would have been nice if she had had the same amount of screen time dedicated to her character and her story within that story.

Given that Clorinda pretending all of this time to be mean and her falling in love with and agreeing to marry a footman is not part of the traditional Cinderella story, that is the story we needed to see. Not a speedy rehash of the parts of it we already know.

In fact, Cinderella could have been absent from those flashbacks all together and the story would have been better served being entirely from Clorinda’s point-of-view.

Emma didn’t do much this episode besides hunt down Ashley – Cinderella’s counterpart in Storybrooke – and visiting Hopper to tell him she was jealous of Ashley being happy because she knows her happiness is coming to an end (she’s dying and all).

There is no way that Henry, Hook, Regina, Snow and Charming have missed her very obviously shaking hand. They haven’t! They know something is going on with her. I just wish she would share it with them. Enough of Emma keeping things to herself; she needs to learn to open herself up to people. Especially these people. She even says that it’s hard keeping her visions from them. Well then tell them Emma!

144279_2813-900x600-850x560The Evil Queen succeeded in planting a seed of doubt in Charming’s mind and now he’s on the hunt for answers concerning his father’s death. Which he gets, kind of, after making a deal with Gold (will these people learn not to make deals with that man?) and is apparently contemplating vengeance.

First mistake, listening to the Evil Queen. But it’s hard not to given the situation, to be honest, and I can understand why he would. Second mistake, making a deal with Gold but again…I can understand why he did. But nothing good is going to come from digging this up and Snow knows that and she can see where he is headed with it. Unfortunately, third, mistake; he didn’t listen to her either. Now to watch this storyline play out over the course of the next few episodes.

Regina sucks at taking herself on and Team Good – who are experts on taking on Regina – are being no help at all. My theory is that by the end of the season, or maybe the mid-season finale, Regina will have to merge with the Evil Queen again. She’s trying to face what she did in the past and start over, but I don’t really think that she truly can until she accepts and learns to live with that side of herself.

Like every other episode thus far this season, this week’s was just okay. I know the season has only just begun but this show hasn’t done much of anything to “WOW” me yet…and other shows with just as many episodes so far, have (and have been doing so since their season premieres). It picked up a little bit last week – the second episode being a smidge more enjoyable than the first – but this episode hasn’t continued that uptick.

Random thoughts:

  1. I forgot that Snow was a teacher.
  2. Why hasn’t Belle filed for divorce yet?
  3. That stab looked so fake.
  4. I knew Charming wouldn’t burn it.
  5. Why didn’t the Evil Queen bust Hyde out of jail the first time she was there?

Once Upon a Time airs Sunday nights at 8 PM on ABC.

When it rains it pours, atleast it certainly does for Samsung as of late. Earlier last month we reported they had issued a massive recall of their Note 7 line because they were overheating: actually to be more accurate, they were combusting into flames. At the time Samsung gave no definite word on what was the real issue; however reports stated it was a problem with the batteries when being over charged. Atleast this was the rumour at the time which Samsung did not fully confirm or deny.

This week this sad saga continued after it was revealed that even the Note 7 replacement units were burning up, one on a plane no less. With similar cases starting to pop up over the USA, it has become with the PR nightmare of sorts. Even carriers have smelt the blood in the water and started offering exchanges on the controversial device or a full refund.samsung-logo-vector

As someone who follows tech for fun and a living, I cannot recommend anyone buying Note 7; clearly Samsung does not know what is wrong with the product and at an estimated retail price of over $800 US, it’s not worth the risk when they are plenty other high end smartphones worth the top billing on the market.

In all seriousness though, how is it that in 2016, we are dealing with mobile phone recalls; not because the phones do not work, but instead the phones in question are none to combust without notice…

Bungo Stray Dogs S02E01 Recap *Spoilers Ahead

Kaetan desu! (*≧▽≦)

Jeez! (╬ Ò ‸ Ó) Season 2 of Bungo Stray Dogs certainly started off on a dark note. The series jumps to four years in the past when Dazai was a still prominent executive in the Port Mafia. Dazai is sitting in a bar when two men who we soon find out to be part of the same organization walk in and order drinks. One of those men is Ango Sakaguchi, an intelligence officer for the Mafia and Sakunosuke Oda, a man who sits in the lowest part of the  hierarchy as a handyman.

As they begin talking, Dazai tells Oda about a shootout he was involved in with a very gung-ho gang who were armed with a machine gun equipped truck. Dazai is a top executive with an extremely bloody and dark past so he shouldn’t receive injuries from something like this, right? Right? Wrong. Dazai procured some injuries in the middle of the shootout while he was hurrying to get to, would you a believe it, a bathroom and tripped on a ditch, falling flat on his face.*Sigh why you so clumsy Dazai? But then again, that is one of his charm points.

Oda begins narrating on Dazai’s background in the Port Mafia, as Dazai himself complains about how he was unable to die again, and how he wants a simple method for committing suicide.  When Oda tell him that there isn’t one, Dazai pauses his antics for a minute and gives states his wish by saying “Man fears death and yet, at the same time, man is drawn to death. Death is endlessly consumed by men in cities and in literature. It is a singular event in one’s life that none may reverse. That is what I desire” Talk about sending chills down my spine, but he said it with a smile so that made it better for me as the viewer.

Typical Dazai, he then quickly changes to light-hearted conversation by requesting the bartender for a drink made of detergent, and when he is rejected both times, Ango walks into the bar telling off Oda for not calling out Dazai when he does that. As he takes a seat next to Dazai, he begins complaining about how this one deal today took up too much time for something as simple as buying a smuggled-in antique watch. Dazai then probes Odasaku as to why he has never heard him complain about work, and Oda chooses to remain humble by explaining how boring his stories are as the organization’s  lowest ranked member, but Dazai persists.

As Oda gives his accounts on today’s work, Dazai’s face lights up and he insists that they switch jobs, particularly when he says how he disposed of a dud (bomb) that was found behind a Mafia office. Ango quickly tries to bring Dazai back down to earth by telling him that he couldn’t handle it, with Odasaku agreeing that Dazai’s anticipation would get him blown up. But we ARE talking about Dazai here, so naturally he gets excited about the thought of being blown up.

When Ango asks if they were meeting up, Dazai says he came there on a whim, hoping to run into the two of them. It as though he wanted some company. Aw, even Dazai gets lonely sometimes. They then make a toast to the stray dogs. Now that phrase mind you, is in the title of the show and this is the first time I’ve heard it mentioned in the actual anime. So we’ll just take note of that for now. They also take commemorative photos to show that they had days like that where they could hang out, despite their different positions in the hierarchy.

2016-10-08-4
To the Stray Dogs….

2016-10-08

-Can I just say that this face, is everything to me now? So adorable!

Fast forward to the next day, Oda is suddenly called to the Port Mafia’s headquarters by Rintaro, the boss who we got a small glimpse of towards the end of season one. Past all of the security and cameras, Oda enters the boss’ chambers.

2016-10-08-8
Please wear the dress Elise-chan (╥ᆺ╥;)

There, he finds Rintaro desperately trying to get Elise, a mysterious little girl who is always by his side to wear a dress, with a lot more dresses scattered all over the floor. Rintaro’s personality changes drastically when Oda announces himself and insists that Oda didn’t see anything. He then explains that he summoned Oda specifically for the job of locating Ango, who has gone missing. He gives him the Silver Oracle, a document which allows him to temporarily gain authority even over executives. Rintaro uses the opportunity to point out Oda’s relations with Dazai, but Oda doesn’t answer. He then asks why it is that Oda has never supposedly killed anyone with the handgun he is always carrying around. Oda respectfully declines to answer and is then excused by Rintaro to commence this special mission.

You didn’t see anything…understand? -_-

We then move to another scene where some armory guards have been killed by what appears to be the same group that was involved in the shootout with Dazai. The group targeted the armory with the intent of stealing firearms. We learn that the shootout was originally a distraction and the storage house they hit had a password on that only staff sub-executive and higher has access to. This screams traitor within the Mafia. Dazai says they captured one of the cloaked members and managed to find out the name of their group, Mimic.

We go back to Oda, who is now investigating Ango’s hotel room and comes across a ventiliation shaft where he discovers a safety box. It is then we discover Oda’s ability ‘Flawless’ which allows him to see up to six seconds into the future, when he avoids being taken out by a nearby hidden sniper. He calls Dazai for backup while heading after the sniper. Oda catches up to them and holds them up in an alley, but he is then ambushed himself by another member lying in wait. As the two members close in on him, it looks like this could be it for Oda, but Dazai intervenes and has the two cloaked members shot dead.

Dazai then explains his findings to Oda. He makes an observation that every Mimic member seems to carry a Graugeist, which although is an old European gun, seems to serve as a symbol to the organization. Oda shows Dazai the safety box they were after, which Dazai spares almost little no to effort unlocking. The contents of the box shocks Oda. A graugeist!!

However, Dazai states that the fact that the gun was in Ango’s room, doesn’t mean it actually was his. Mimic could have planted it there in there. But he quickly changes his tune as to Ango’s whereabouts before he arrived at the bar. Ango claims to have driven to do a deal in Tokyo at 8:00PM where the weather was rainy. But the umbrella was wet enough to have been in the rain for at least thirty minutes and Ango’s pants and shoes were dry when he arrived at the bar two hours later. Dazai says that he doesn’t believe that Ango went to a deal, but went to meet someone in secret. Oda tries to justify this, but Dazai shuts it down, saying that if they were such good friends, then Ango wouldn’t have needed to make up an alibi.

One of the Mimic members, miraculously still alive, points his Graugeist at Dazai and Oda. This is when Dazai’s personality starts to scare me.

Dazai psyches out both the Mimic member as well as Oda by egging on the cloaked figure to pull the trigger of the gun and wake him from this “oxidizing world of a dream”. What follows would be a gunshot, and then we see the cloaked man grabbing his shoulder in pain. Surprise! Oda fired under the pressure! A rain of gunfire from Dazai’s subordinates follows and finally kills the man.

Dead eyes never looked so good (●♡∀♡)

After the dust clears, Dazai then makes a confession that he knew the sniper would miss as the inprint from the sniper rifle was on the shooter’s cheek, meaning he was left handed. He was holding the Graugeist with his right hand. In addition to that, the gun has low firing rate and accuracy and could only fire warning shots in the alley. Dazai tired his arm out for long enough, knowing that Oda would shoot him. What is with this guy?

Dazai then requests Oda to find Ango to which Oda says “Yeah, I know”

Tales of Dunk and Egg #1 – The Hedge Knight Review

The Hedge Knight is a novella written by George R.R. Martin that was published in 1998 and is the first book in Tales of Dunk and Egg; a series of prequel novellas set in the world of the A Song of Ice and Fire novels. Set around 90 years before the events of A Game of Thrones, the novella tells the story of how Dunk became a hedge knight, met and befriended his squire, Egg and their involvement in the tourney of Ashford Meadow.

This book is by George R.R. Martin, to say that it was well-written and that the story was engaging is equivalent to saying the sky is blue; you’re stating the obvious. The book is written in the first person from Dunk’s point-of-view. The story, plot and character development is organic. The pieces of each are carefully laid and it all comes together coherently with virtually no loose ends.

There is no info-dumping in this book. The story doesn’t pause so that a character can tell you what is what; it just happens naturally and you learn about the world and everything else you need to by virtue of things happening. You get to know a character through their speech and their actions.

Dunk has a strong sense of honour, is noble and keeps his word. He is a simple man with simple desires. He’s not overly ambitious. There is a naivety, shyness, sweetness and innocence about him that is very endearing, draws you to him and makes him sympathetic. He is very easily likable. Fun fact: He is an ancestor of Brienne.

Egg is precocious, stubborn, intelligent, humble and compassionate. As annoying as he is when he is first introduced he has a sincerity and authenticity that allows you to see through that initial annoyance to see the sweet little boy that he is underneath. Fun fact: He is Maester Aemon’s younger brother and Daenerys’ grandfather.

There are a lot of Targaryens in this book and he is the best of them, besides Baelor Breakspear. Knowing that he becomes King later in life and seeing what all of the other options would have been, as “Unlikely” as his rule may have been the Seven Kingdoms were better off with him.

It is quite confusing keeping track of which Targaryen is which – there are so many! But for anyone who loves this house it is a good dilemma to have; seeing the Targaryens, not quite at the height of their power, but not nearly as diminished as they have become by A Song of Ice and Fire.

If you are familiar with the lore and history of Westeros, particularly as concerns House Targaryen, then you know the ultimate fates of these characters. In a small, indirect way the story has been spoiled for you. It is quite bittersweet reading about Dunk and Egg and growing to love them and their friendship knowing what will happen to them later in life. But that doesn’t take away from the enjoyment of the novel. Part of that is hearing about characters that are still alive by A Song of Ice and Fire in passing – like Maester Aemon – and seeing and learning more about characters who are mentioned in A Song of Ice and Fire “in person.”

The tone of this novella is different from that of the A Song of Ice and Fire novels.

For one, there is no feeling of a great, looming threat – the Others – and no intrigue or political maneuvering. It’s generally lighter. But this is George R.R. Martin. It is part of the A Song of Ice and Fire universe. So there’s some bittersweet-ness to be had.

It’s a also a different genre; it’s more of a medieval adventure whereas A Song of Ice and Fire is a medieval, thriller, supernatural, fantasy drama.

It’s easy to recommend this novella to people who are already fans of the main novels and show watchers who want to engage with the books but are wary of their length. Outside of that, it will likely suit the tastes of those whole like medieval adventure novels along the lines of King Arthur. Or perhaps even those who have a distaste for the A Song of Ice and Fire because of it’s violence and sexual content (of which there is none of the latter).

It is skillfully written with a compelling story, a unified and consistent plot and charming, fascinating characters.
