Luke Cage S01E08 Recap

0

As promised, here are the recaps for the second half of Luke Cage. The recaps for these episodes will be published separately, as individual articles, instead of in one big post like the first six episodes. Happy reading!

SOME SPOILERS AHEAD.

lc-s01e08I saw the sniper being Luke’s brother coming.

And that he was Diamondback. Even though up to the last episode I was still sure it was Alvarez.

When he followed Luke and Claire when they were taking cover behind the car, for some reason, right there it hit me that he was Diamondback. Then when they were in the theatre fighting it occurred to me that he may be Luke’s brother.

I would like to know more about their history. Hopefully we get a flashback sometime soon. He makes it sound like Luke had a criminal past, but Luke said that he was innocent of the crime he ultimately went to prison for. I still think that’s true but maybe there’s some kind of misunderstanding between them.

Misty was kind of my hero for a bit this episode. Claire told her Luke was innocent and she believed her instantly. Which was surprising since she seems to have this thing against Luke. I have no idea what it is. But then she still said she was going to arrest him.

He is a suspect in an ongoing investigation so she does need to bring him in, but still. She ruined the moment. The way I saw it, she would arrest him and then back him up and let it be known that he’s innocent.

And she ruined it again later when she attacked Claire in the interrogation room. I get it; she was seriously close to dying and she’s in shock. But I’m glad Claire called her out and told her that she’s either too weak to handle pressure or too stupid to see that Luke is innocent. I don’t know why she thought Luke was guilty this entire time. She knows that all of the crimes that Luke is connected with were perpetrated by Cottonmouth.

I was questioning last episode why the Judas bullet didn’t kill Luke the instant it exploded. I assumed that his insides wouldn’t be as hard as his insides, but it turns out that they are so that saved him. We got to learn a bit more about his powers the same time that he did. He never explored his powers or their extent, or even fully knows what they are, it looks like.

lc-s01e08_2Mariah is really coming into her own as a crime boss and adapting to it really quickly. She didn’t even hesitate when Alvarez asked what they were going to do about Candice if she confesses to lying. She instantly said they would have to kill her. And then she looked at the picture of Ma Mabel later and said she’s nothing like her, but she is. From last week’s episode I thought of her as being so much more like Ma Mabel than she wants to admit to herself. It only confirms for me that Mariah is the one who should have taken over the Stokes family business.

She’s not even a little bit sorry for killing Cottonmouth. She doesn’t even care anymore and got over that very quickly. She’s already in the process of manipulating the situation to make herself look good and get back to her role as councilwoman. But at this point I think Mariah just needs to get out of politics and embrace being the second coming of Ma Mabel. Be Black Mariah.

I want to see how much further Alvarez goes with his manipulation of Mariah. Is Diamondback even aware that Alvarez has been trying to take over? At the same time I want Mariah to become aware of his manipulation and kick him out. I feel like even if she does, though, that Cottonmouth’s former goons will follow Alvarez and not her. He did tell them they work for him. So she’s still actually powerless.

Random thoughts:

  1. Where are these rocket launchers coming from?
  2. A little curious as to what Cottonmouth looks like after Mariah’s handiwork.
  3. I wonder where they got the names “Black Mariah” and “Cottonmouth” and why they don’t like them.

Luke Cage S01E12 Recap

As promised, here are the recaps for the second half of Luke Cage. The recaps for these episodes will be published separately, as individual articles, instead of in one big post like the first six episodes. Happy reading!

SOME SPOILERS AHEAD.

“There’s something powerful about seeing a black man that’s bulletproof and unafraid.”

After all of the anti-Luke sentiment from Mariah’s rally last episode, it was nice to see so many people showing love and support for Luke and believing in his innocence. And also smart enough to realise that the narrative they’ve been fed doesn’t make any sense and is totally inconsistent.

lc-s01e12I liked the montage of people buying and wearing hole ridden hoodies, but I was holding my breath the entire time thinking that someone would get shot by the police thinking that it was him.

I really don’t understand what Diamondback is trying to do anymore. Does he have a plan? I don’t think he does. As predicted, Candice confessed and now Mariah is in deep trouble. He just seems mad with jealously and hatred and blinded by it. Again, he is going down the same road that Cottonmouth did.

And always so ready to kill someone! Shades should have known they were sent to kill him the moment they sprung him out of jail and especially when he saw the two new guys. He’s no idiot. He had to have seen that coming. I’m also still convinced that he has a romantic interest in Mariah.

Holding her face and the way he spoke to her after she killed Cottonmouth, now bringing her the wine bottle she used to hit him as some kind of gift, the way he is speaking to her now...This is more than just manipulating her for power.

Also, where did he get the bottle and Luke’s file? Where did he go and what exactly did he do after killing Zip and the two other dudes?

And like I guessed, he did try to make a move against Diamondback. I never would have suspected he would try to use Luke to do it, though.
That was yet another parley that ended in disaster (they really should stop holding those) and Pops’ barber shop got destroyed again. Literally everyone knows to look for Luke there and I’m not surprised Diamondback showed up. Or Misty. She really didn’t need to track him. He is always there.

lc-s01e12_3I’m guessing Diamondback’s suit is the rest of what goes with the glove. I’m interested in seeing how exactly it levels the playing field; we know it gives him increased strength and we just saw that it’s bullet proof – he’s essentially Luke now – but I think it has to do more than that. He’s so confident that he can beat Luke with it that I think we haven’t seen all that it can do. Simply being as strong as Luke isn’t enough to beat him, I think.

Random thoughts:

  1. I was so wrong about Ridley. I trust her now.
  2. Mariah’s assistant, Alex, is a little too enthusiastic.
  3. He slapped that dude upside his head XD!
  4. Candice is gonna die.
  5. “What’s in the box?” “One of the seven deadly sins.” – Is this an intentional Seven reference?
  6. Domingo sit down. You can’t beat Diamondback.
  7. Told ya Domingo.

Luke Cage S01E13 [FINAL] Recap

0

As promised, here are the recaps for the second half of Luke Cage. The recaps for these episodes will be published separately, as individual articles, instead of in one big post like the first six episodes. Happy reading!

SOME SPOILERS AHEAD.

lc-s01e13_2We all knew Luke was going to win the fight with Diamondback. There was never any question about that. But I didn’t think he’d get beaten up as badly as he did. The suit made Diamondback reallyvery strong that he was able to make Luke bleed. I really underestimated that thing. Maybe super strength is enough to take down Luke.

I love how basically all of Harlem gathered around the fight to watch and cheer him on. That had to affect Diamondback psychologically a little bit. Given his hatred of Luke because he thought their father favoured him, I’d think that seeing Luke literally surrounded by love would hurt him somewhat.

Claire pulled an Iris West with her motivational line to Luke. But unlike in The Flash where that kind of thing comes off totally cheesy, it didn’t here because she doesn’t do it constantly. Luke may have been indecisive about his heroism, but he doesn’t need his love interest to give him a pep talk so he can be useful.

lc-s01e13I can get behind Luke and Claire. They’re very cute together and the more scenes we get of them flirting with each other, the more the pairing grows on me. Shame they won’t get any coffee. But at least he got a kiss!

I was lulled into a false sense of security when Candice listened to Claire and stayed with Soledad. I truly thought that she would make it to the end of the show virtually unscathed. But nope. Alvarez just had to swoop in and kill her. Thereby destroying the state’s case against Mariah.

lc-s01e13_3Seriously though, he has to have some kind of thing for Mariah. Why would he stick around after everything that’s happened? Why save her by killing Candice? There has to be more behind his actions than just ambition and using her to get what and where he wants to be. If he didn’t care about her at all, he could have just high tailed it out of there and set himself up somewhere else. He had that opportunity. He was a free man. But he came back for Mariah.

It was inevitable that Luke would go back to prison. He got all of that exposure in the media and Mariah calling him Carl Lucas on camera was all that it took. But it’s still unfair and I was hoping that there’d be a way for him to get out of it. I should have known that the folder was too good to be true and he wouldn’t be exonerated that easily. But there is hope! Bobby has the folder and he knows what it is and the value of it.

On the bright side of things, at least now we have a hint about how Matt and Luke will meet each other going into Defenders. It’s pretty good and logical set up for that.

FINAL IMPRESSIONS:

I didn’t really like this show much when I saw the first few episodes. I didn’t dislike it or anything, it just didn’t leave me very enthused about it. It really picked up and became very engaging at about episode five or six for me. It was a little heavy handed at times with the celebration of blackness and Luke stopping to make a speech about it got a bit disruptive, but I appreciated all of it none the less. Setting Luke Cage amongst other black heroes and having them be inspirational figures in his life was a really nice touch.

I don’t like it as much as I liked Daredevil or Jessica Jones and it’s by no means perfect. But it did what it set out to do, I think and it did that pretty well.

Overall, the writing and acting were good. I wish we had gotten to learn more about some of the characters – Alvarez especially, he’s a bit of an enigma and Bobby’s cool so I’d like to know more about him as well.

It’s a worthy addition to Netflix’s mini universe within the MCU.

Random thoughts:

  1. Stop destroying the shop!
  2. Misty didn’t read Mariah her Miranda Rights.
  3. No! Don’t give up the shop!
  4. Mariah loses all sophistication and manners when she is cornered and scared.
  5. They’re gonna get coffee!
  6. No! They were gonna get coffee!
  7. I didn’t think Mariah reciprocated.
  8. They know your face Misty. Still suck at going undercover I see.
  9. Oh come on! Dr. Burstein got his hands on Diamondback?!

Luke Cage S01E10 Recap

0

As promised, here are the recaps for the second half of Luke Cage. The recaps for these episodes will be published separately, as individual articles, instead of in one big post like the first six episodes. Happy reading!

SOME SPOILERS AHEAD.

lc-s01e10Reva knew everything! About Rackham, the fights, all of it!

I knew she knew about the experiments, but I thought the fights were something separate from them. But they weren’t; they were part of the selection process for the experiments. She was a part of all of it! And the calm, detached way she spoke about Luke in her video logs (even at the point when he’d lost his humanity; the point at which she stared to show feelings for him) makes me think she was lying to him the entire time and she never actually loved him.

I’m as shell shocked as Luke!

And the Harlem Police Department though! They are falling apart. That officer beat up a child!

I understand that the officers that make up the department don’t know Luke and who he is and they only know him from what they see in the media, but come on! Shouting out “My name is Luke Cage!” after murdering the police officer has to be the biggest clue that it’s a set up and Luke is innocent. They can’t be that stupid. Plus, the fact that literally everyone that Luke has traded blows with has lived to speak about it should make it seem strange to them that he just up and killed someone all of a sudden. It’s inconsistent with his past actions.

I know they have to bring him in for questioning regardless because his name keeps coming up, but they’re not going after him like that. He is 100% guilty in their minds and their closeness to the case is clouding their judgement. They are going after him as if he it’s been confirmed beyond a shadow of a doubt that he did it and going way overboard in trying to bring him in.

Misty is the only one being sensible.

lc-s01e10_2Mariah is the Queen of Spin. I admire her for how craftily she is weaving this narrative to push her own agenda and how successfully she has done it. But I hate her for turning the public against Luke; something Cottonmouth failed to do spectacularly and here she succeeded. She truly is in her element. This is where she shines. Again, it was always her; she is the one who should have taken over the family business.

I really do hate that she managed to turn at least some of the Harlem community against Luke. I get that they’re scared and angry and people tend not to be rational when they’re high on emotion, but everything he did for them can’t be that far from their minds. But these people are probably the ones who thought he was trouble to begin with.

Also, I’m pretty sure Diamondback knows that she killed Cottonmouth. Or at least knows that Luke didn’t do it. I don’t think it matters to him much who killed him because this is and has been a situation he can manipulate to benefit himself. And he’s been doing that.

It looks like Luke and Claire are getting closer. On the one hand I like it and am all for it. Ship all the way! But on the other hand I am so Team Luke/Jessica. I know she is so not even on his radar, but given what little I know about their comic book lives thanks to Emergency Awesome, I just really want them to happen. But I can get behind Luke/Claire (Laire? Cluke? LuClaire?)

Random thoughts:

  1. Isn’t it illegal to question a minor without their parent present?
  2. This kid is not letting this police officer bully him!
  3.  Yea I knew that data wasn’t lost.
  4. Luke’s father though!

Luke Cage S01E07 Recap

0

As promised, here are the recaps for the second half of Luke Cage. The recaps for these episodes will be published separately, as individual articles, instead of in one big post like the first six episodes. Happy reading!

SOME SPOILERS AHEAD:

lc-s01e07Cottonmouth is dead.

And he didn’t even get a full episode to enjoy his victory/freedom.

I don’t know why it didn’t immediately jump out at me that flashing back to his childhood meant that he was going to die. That’s what I said with Pops; any character who isn’t the main character, once you get their backstory that means their number’s up.

It only occurred to me that he was going to die when Mariah got the news that she was being made to resign from political office. When she lost it right then, I just got the feeling that she was going to kill him. After all, the entire mess he found himself in is the very reason why she lost her job.. And no matter how much she – or Alvarez – tried to talk some sense into him, he just wouldn’t listen.

I found it really strange earlier in the episode when Alvarez was giving her the speech about her not having any power and that she could have power. I didn’t understand what he was doing then, but by the end of the episode when she killed Cottonmouth and he came out of nowhere, grabbing her face and speaking to her like a lover calming down his upset partner…Either he is into her or he’s manipulating her to seize control of Cottonmouth’s operation. I think it may be a bit of both.

But why does he care so much about the Stokes family business? Why is he so invested? What is motivating him to take over? I think that this thing he has with the Stokes family is about more than just taking it over; I think its very personal and that it means something to him.

Also I’m pretty sure he’s Diamondback?

Back to Cottonmouth’s backstory.

Ma Mabel was a cruel and vicious woman. She did do more to help the community than Cottonmouth and Mariah ever did. They were both – Cottonmouth more than Mariah –  involved in the crime part of Ma Mabel’s operation, not the helping the community part. As much as both of them spoke about wanting to do that.  They haven’t done it in a very visible way, not that we’ve seen on the show thus far.

I’m confused as to why Ma Mabel pushed Cottonmouth so hard to get involved in criminal activity but Mariah was the one that she pushed to do something else.

Mariah did say that she was put into boarding school to get away from her uncle Peter, but I don’t think that Mabel did that to benefit Mariah or keepher safe. I think that, like Cottonmouth, Ma Mabel thought Mariah welcomed the abuse and it was more about stopping her from getting “fresh.”

lc-s01e07_2It was a little sad seeing their uncle Peter die; only a little – he did molest Mariah. Particularly because he was, as Cottonmouth said, the only one who had his back. And Cottonmouth really could have gone in a different direction if he had had uncle Peter to encourage his talent and his pursuit of that. He could have made something of himself; he really was the only one who had the opportunity to get out of the family business. And it’s unfortunate that he didn’t get to.

Mariah was never getting out of it, as much as she fought against her inclination toward it. That was destined for her. She always demonstrated this loyalty and devotion to Ma Mabel, the idea of her and what she stood for, even though she didn’t want to be her. So it seems like Mariah was always the one who should have taken over the family business and not Cottonmouth.

I didn’t expect Claire to be around this long. I assumed she was only going to be in the show for the one episode as a cross over with Daredevil and Jessica Jones. But it looks like she’s a current resident of Luke Cage. She’s taken over Pop’s role of being the motivational force behind Luke; the person encouraging him to use his powers for the greater good.

Luke’s hesitation to do the hero thing, like really do it, is a bit annoying. He can’t keep flip flopping between doing it and not doing it. He’s already put himself out here as a saviour for the community. Granted it was for selfish reasons, but he did directly help others when Cottonmouth sent his goons to attack everyone.

I knew the Judas bullet was going to work, but seeing it work was still kind of shocking. And I thought it wasn’t going to happen anymore since Cottonmouth is dead and I thought he would be the one to shoot Luke, not this sniper Alvarez has apparently sent. Then again, Alvarez is apparently after Cottonmouth’s operation and if he’s going to take it over he’s still going to need to deal with Luke.

Random thoughts:

  1. No, he can’t walk on water, but it’s funny you think it’s possible.
  2. Settle this like gentlemen? You’re totally setting him up!
  3. I love that the former inspector was replaced by another Black woman.
  4. Young Mariah didn’t seem happy with the prospect of becoming a lawyer.
  5. I’m surprised Mariah doesn’t have people killed.
  6. He’s getting black mailed into being a tank again?!

Gaming News: 14th of October, 2016 Edition

0

Welcome to this week’s edition of Gaming News; first bit of news is for the horror fans among us.

The Friday the 13th: The Game has been delayed to spring of 2017- the developer Gun Media announced via its Kickstarter page, that though they initially intended to release in 2016, they decided to push back the release date in order to add the much requested single-player mode.

“The first thing people are going to read here is delay,” studio head Wes Keltner said. “We want everyone to be assured that coming to our decision to delay was no easy matter, but we believe that the positives far outweigh the negatives. We’ve been reading day in and day out on our social media feeds that single player and Tommy Jarvis were in such a demand that we couldn’t ignore our fans. After securing funding, we’re here to tell you that it is a reality and we’re making this game [is] even bigger.

For those of us who cannot wait till next year to try this game out, if you backed the game on Kickstarter or preordered it, you will receive beta access sometime this year, along with four additional keys you can give to friends to enjoy this experience.

Friday the 13th: The Game began its life as a game called Slasher Vol 1: Summer Camp before the Friday the 13th franchise’s rights-holders, including Sean Cunningham, contacted developer Gun Media. The rights were given to Gun Media for free, and the game eventually morphed into a full-blown Friday the 13th title.

Obsidian Entertainment this week announced the launch date of their upcoming fantasy RPG titled Tyranny. This game is a follow up to the developer’s previous game, Pillars of Eternity, a game that was well received by reviewers and gamers alike. This PC exclusive game will come in three versions:

  • Commander Edition ($45)
  • Archon Edition ($60)
  • Overlord Edition ($80)

Check out the Pre-order trailer below:

And finally we have come great news for us Pc gaming enthusiasts; one of Valve’s engineers Jeff Bellinghausen, announced this week that the company will be releasing an update to add DualShock 4 support to its Steam Controller configurability options.

Lars Doucet who is a developer for Defender’s quest went on to mentioned that the PS4 controller had a lot of overlapping functionality with the Steam Controller, which will not surprise anyone who follows PC gaming.

“Believe it or not, when you use the PS4 Controller through the Steam API, it’s exactly the same as a Steam Controller,” Doucet said. “You make the exact same API calls, you only get actions, not inputs, and the Steam API takes care of everything.”

This move by Valve was predictable- back in August Sony announced a wireless USB adapter for the DualShock 4; this adapter in many ways works the same as a wired PS4 controller to PC. For years we have been using DS4Windows are our go to hack to use the PS3 and PS4 controller on windows, it seems Sony and Valve have finally come around to supporting this functionality natively, or atleast giving developers the option to support it.

Let us know down below your thoughts on these three stories, and for more updates just like these, stay locked to Zeitgeist Magazine.

How to Get Away With Murder S03E04 Recap

0

SOME SPOILERS AHEAD.

Three huge bombshells this week:

  1. Frank killed Bonnie’s father.
  2. The second person in the house is Laurel.
  3. She’s pregnant.

frankThere are too many questions surrounding why Frank killed Bonnie’s father – and what his overall plan/mission is to be honest. He killed Wes’ father (noticing a pattern here) and in both cases it was because they had wronged someone that he is (was?) close to in some way. So I guess he killed Bonnie’s father because of what he did to her?

And Laurel confessed! I mean, how couldn’t she after what she heard? I know Bonnie has no love for her father, but I expected her to be more upset when Laurel told her the truth; Laurel lying about having found Frank pretty much led to his death. I suppose Bonnie is more concerned about Annalise at the moment.

I can see Laurel not wanting Frank to be killed even if she isn’t still in love with him and lying to Annalise to prevent that. I still think, though, that her mission to find him without Annalise and Bonnie stemmed from her being Lovesick Laurel.

And I think that the baby is Frank’s.

Or maybe Wes’?

She’s still chasing after Frank – and I think he would go back to her; for all we know they’re back together four weeks down the road – but she did seem to be rather jealous at Wes’ surprise birthday party when he and Meggy (I could have sworn her name was Maggie) started dancing in front of her.

Still believe she and Wes have feelings for each other.

watch-how-to-get-away-with-murder-season-3-episode-4-onlineSpeaking of babies on board, I figured that Tristan had stolen the money to help someone. That much was obvious. I did not think that it was for a baby  or one from his teacher for that matter. That was…something. Three words: Mary Kay LeTourneau. Tristan and Susan won’t be getting a happily ever after like she did though.

It didn’t occur to me that the case was similar to what had happened to Bonnie until Asher brought it up. I know he means well, but Bonnie doesn’t need him to pity her or anything of the sort because of it. If I were her, I’d have been annoyed with him too.

In more appropriate relationship news, Annalise only came onto Eve because Nate is gone and, as she said earlier, she’s lonely. She’s always been lonely. My heart broke for her in that scene; she pushed Nate away and now Eve has found someone else. She really doesn’t have anyone besides her students and she wouldn’t have anything if she hadn’t saved her job.

She may have been lying about being an alcoholic to get her job back, but it is absolutely true. Or maybe she did recognise that Nate was right and she was telling the truth. I’m not quite sure. I can see her being truthful then, but I think she was lying. Annalise needs help, as Nate said. Now she will get it and learn something and heal, move forward and be happy for once. Hopefully.

President Vélez had a point. Annalise has been less than cooperative, always combative and bulldozes everyone to get what she wants. She shouldn’t be surprised that someone on the board is actively working against her. In some ways, she got herself into that situation. As satisfying as it is to see Annalise bring the thunder, she is her own worst enemy at this point.

Also, is Vélez from the Caribbean? I’ve never heard “those who don’t hear, will feel” (“if ya can’t hear, ya gin feel” in Bajan parlance) outside of the region. I guess it would exist in a number of variations elsewhere.

Random thoughts:

  1. Still don’t like the new kid.
  2. Drunk Annalise is funny.
  3. Nate is not shirtless in this episode.

How to Get Away with Murder airs Thursday nights at 10 PM on ABC.

R.I.P Note 7

$5.4 billion dollars…just let that sink in folks.

That is the estimated cost at Samsung for them pulling the Galaxy Note 7 off the market shelves this week. In a month filled with mass confusion around the now infamous combustible Note 7, this was a heart-breaking but necessary move the South Korean tech firm could have done. What this has revealed however, is that Samsung still has no idea what caused this issue to occur in the first place. The first theory floating around, was that the batteries were faulty- however after the first recall was issued, Samsung switched to a different battery manufacturer. That of course did not change anything at all, because once again, a good set of units caught fire.

Because consumers’ safety remains our top priority, Samsung will ask all carrier and retail partners globally to stop sales and exchanges of the Galaxy Note 7 while the investigation is taking place.

Consumers with either an original Galaxy Note 7 or replacement Galaxy Note 7 device should power down and stop using the device and take advantage of the remedies available.

The above statement from Samsung should be taken very seriously from all Note 7 owners. This is truly a sad day for all Samsung fans- after the Apple iPhone 7 released to “meh” acclaim, it was the Note 7’s time to shine and dominate the flagship phone arena atleast till the end of the year. What this recall will do to Samsung’s reputation is anyone’s guess really. I would not be surprised if the Note line gets a re-branding for the next year’s iteration

So readers what do you think caused these phones to explode. Sloppy engineering? Cheap parts? Karma? Let us know down below

Girlish Number E01 Recap

Kaetan desu! (*≧▽≦)

girlish-number-4

Well it took a while to get the rights, but Crunchyroll has finally begun airing Girlish Number. Our premiere episode begins at what appears to be the wrapping up of an event for an anime. The cast members are taking turns on stage giving their final thanks to the audience members for coming out. We get our first glimpse of our heroine Chitose Karasuma who appears to be in her thoughts, so much so that she misses her cue to speak and another cast member has to jab her in the side to bring her back to life.

The two main heroines of the anime enthusiastically perform the opening song to the game, even though minutes earlier their light discussion was fraught with tension. Once the event is over everyone is invited to go out to eat but the two heroines rush out saying they have other commitments, so they are excusing themselves. Chitose starts to believe that she shouldn’t go since a lot of the seiyuu seem to be ducking out of the event. That all changes however, as soon as she overhears that it is a yakiniku (grilled meat) restaurant that they are headed to and she enthusiastically volunteers herself. Her manager Gojo gives his introduction by giving her a chop and reminding her that she is still a newbie and to not get ahead of herself. But the Lead Manager of the production committee says it’s alright, since Chitose worked hard, despite having a small part.

At the restaurant, Chitose is stuffing her face with beef tongue when Kuzu-san (voiced by Nakai Kazuma *fan girling) the producer from the distributor arrives and gives his greetings to all there. Honestly, I love Nakai’s voice, but it sounds a little TOO upbeat here then what I’m used to. Kuzu wastes no time boasting on how he recommended the place and how the lead manager always copies him. Chitose is paying no attention whatsoever.

This show gives off that generic air of “cute girls doing cute things: seiyuu version”, but from what I’ve seen so far, it seems to be more of a cynical view of the anime industry from the perspective of the voice actors.

Back in the apartment, Gojo gives Chitose a check video for a new job before he goes to bed and we find out that they’re actually siblings. We then watch as Chitose thinks about what she doesn’t like about the industry. The next morning, Chitose repeatedly practices the one line she has been assigned. Chitose is complaining about how she can’t get the timing right because the drawings suck. Goda gives her a new script for a job next week to try and cheer her up, but once she finds out that the source material is a light novel, she gets depressed. When she sees that Kazuha and Momoka, the  two voice actresses from her just concluded job will be a part of the cast, Chitose starts to get full of herself again.

I wish you'd tell that to the people who actually make anime

Gojo reiterates that she’s a newbie and she doesn’t make enough to have to report for taxes (total burn right there), but Chitose says she’s not popular because Gojo doesn’t promote her enough. He lets her know that if the product is bad, it won’t sell no matter how much promoting is done. He brings her back down by reminding her that she hasn’t passed any auditions and she should try for more results as a pro. Chitose then gets mad and goes off to her next job.

At the job during recordings, Chitose walks in front of Shibasaki, full of her own thoughta.  Shibasaki gets pissed and confronts her on the issue but Chitose does a good job of playing it off. Shibasaki comes across as someone who takes her acting skills too seriously, nothing else has been said of her, but so far I don’t like her.

Momoka and Chitose are approached by the author of the light novel and a staff member a

fter the recordings to go out for dinner but Momoka refuses for both of them. On the way home, they exchange contact information and Momoka makes thus snotty remark that even though Chitose’s character is funny, her acting is trash which honestly made me laugh more than I should have.

We go across town to a bar where Kuzu, Gojo and the President of the agency are having drinks together. Kuzu gives the President a proposal for an anime project that he is the lead on. Gojo gives him the profiles for the new members. They end up picking out Chitose saying she could do more than be simply a seiyuu….she could be an idol.

The next day, Chitose and Gojo find themselves in the President’s office where Kuzu presents Chitose with a script. The idea that they have is to combine idols and light-novels into anime, which they reason will be a masterpiece. Chitose looks for the cast members and sees her name as the lead. From there, it’s just a bunch of back and forth on how great she’d fit the role and then they all end up laughing boisterously, except for Gojo who hangs his head in ultimate shame at the events due to come. I feel so sorry for him, I really do.

Girlish Number airs on Crunchyroll every Wednesday at 1:00pm (AST)
