Haikyuu!! S03E08 Recap

Kaetan desu! (*≧▽≦)

Let’s not waste any time! Let’s vault into episode 8!

The teams switch court sides and Hinata is back on the court! Karasuma pulls back some points between Suga and Tanaka’s work (and Hinata’s face ><) Although he is clearly in pain, Hinata refuses to be benched so he fights the pain. After being shut down by Tendo, Suga and the rest of the team go in for another synchronized attack but instead of Suga spiking this time, Tanaka takes it and Tendo, lost in his world of prediction is too late on the uptake.

SURPRISE! Kageyama is over his exhaustion and returns with a bang, quite literally with a killer serve and as soon as the ball returns to their side he sets up a quick attack straight down with Hinata (It was Hinata that initiated it, which pissed off Kageyama) guess they were excited about being back on the court together.

After a few more points, the score is 12-10 in favor of Shiratorizawa, thanks to Semi’s pinch serving. Hinata then does the unthinkable when he accidentally receives Ushijima’s spike insanely close to the net, giving Karasuno double digits. Yamaguchi is brought back on as pinch server and the team recovers 2 points thanks to his efforts and Goshiki’s unforced errors. It only takes one talking to from Ushijima to get him back on his feet and before we know it, Shiratorizawa is now at match point.

The Karasuno team seem totally discouraged, but wait, is that- YEEEEEEEEESSSSSSSSSSHH

Tsukishima returns to the court! See you in the next ep! OMG I can’t wait!

Ja ne!

TV Recap Preview – Girls

0

Premiere Date: February 12th

Network: HBO

Cast: Lena Dunham, Allison Williams, Zosia Mamet, Jemima Kirke, Adam Driver, Alex Karpovsky, Andrew Rannells, Ebon Moss-Bachrach, Jake Lacy

Synopsis: Created by and starring Lena Dunham (“Tiny Furniture”), the show is a comic look at the assorted humiliations and rare triumphs of a group of girls in their mid-20s. – HBO.

Why we’re watching: Hannah and Marnie are deplorable, Shoshanna is annoying and Jessa is the only one who is close to bearable. But I don’t think this show actually wants you to like them or cares if you do. Despite the main four not being particularly likeable they’re still compelling and this is actually a pretty good show. Continuously touted as this generation’s Sex and the City, the characters on that show weren’t likeable either and it was still a cultural phenomenon and a classic. That’s not to say that the same is or will be true of Girls, however. This being the last season, it’s almost imperative to see where the “girls” will end up at the end of it if you’ve seen every season thus far.

Haikyuu!! S03E07 Recap

Kaetan desu! (*≧▽≦)

Yeah let’s jump straight into our next episode! We’re into the final stretch with the fifth and final set after that miraculous save from Hinata!!

Sugawara who is feeling lots of pressure to live up to the now exhausted Kageyama, has been substituted in his place. After some reassurance from Shimizu and a somewhat slow start, Suga shows signs of being predictable and Tendo tries to take advantage of it but Suga pulls through and shows that he was also working on a new move as well during the training camp back in Season 2. He is now able to spike! (Mr. Refreshing is BACK! ><) BTW Kageyama never learnt how to do this!

We then get a flashback into Tendo’s life as a child through junior high when no one wanted anything to do with him because of how monstrously good he was at volleyball. After entering Shiratorizawa, Tendo finds some kind of comfort from talking to Ushijima, even though Tendo is usually the only one talking, as Ushijima is a man of few words. We learn at this point, how Ushijima got into volleyball- his father was a secondary league player himself, who eventually retired after too many injuries. Ushijima’s father told him about the ace on his team made all of teammates believe that if you set up an attack for him, he would definitely see it through and that’s what excited everyone. Ushijima wanted to become a player like that so that’s why he pushed himself so far.

After Shiratorizawa calls an early timeout due to Karasuno’s tricks that gives them an early four-point lead, Ushijima remembers some advice his father gave him and gets fired up. Shiratorizawa pulls back a few points. Karasuno tries to fight them but not before losing Tsukishima to an injured hand from one of Ushijima’s spikes. So late in the game?! Why? The fifth game is only up to 15 points?! WHAAAAAAAA?!

Shiratorizawa now is leading by three points and Tsukishima is super frustrated, but he is forced to go to the infirmary until he gets over his problem. The team acknowledges that they need to be even more controlled than ever now that he is absent. Unfortuantely, things don’t seem to be going their way due to both Tendo and Ushijima being on a high. At the end of this episode: The fifth and final game. Shiratorizawa leads 8-4. See you for the next episode!

TV Recap Preview – Reign

0

Premiere Date: February 10th

Network: The CW

Cast: Adelaide Kane, Torrance Coombs, Megan Follows, Jonathan Keltz, Craig Parker, Rachel Skarsten, Celina Sinden, Rose Williams, Charlie Garrick, Ben Geurens

Synopsis: Mary, Queen of Scots, faces political and sexual intrigue in the treacherous world of the French court. – IMDB.

Why we’re watching: This is definitely a guilty pleasure show. Those of us who watch it know it’s not particularly good – especially when it comes to the acting – and in no way historically accurate, but it’s just so darn beautiful to look at (those costumes!) and we really like the characters. It’s just fun and entertaining. After nearly three seasons, Mary is finally in Scotland and taking charge of her country. It’s sad that the series is ending but all so-bad-they’re-good things must come to an end.

Haikyuu!! S03E06 Recap

Kaetan desu! (*≧▽≦)

I’m back after a long break! Happy New Year!!!! I hope I didn’t keep you waiting for too long! My sincerest apologies if I did! So! Without any further ado, let’s jump back into the action!

When we saw the last episode, after a long string of back and fourths in what seems like a never-ending tie, Karasuno finally managed to break a point away from Shiratorizawa in an epic battle of determination and strength between the two sides.

This new episode starts off….with a flashback? Ugh…..this had better not be a full episode long. We are shown when Daichi, Suga, Asahi, fresh out of junior high school first join the Karasuno school  team out of their admiration for the team they saw that played at Nationals. They watch as the team they once admired deteriorates in front of their eyes from their lack of practice matches since coach Ukai left. The three try to bring the team together, but it proves too late by the time the tournament (Inter-High) comes around and Karasuno is knocked out in the second round. Daichi remembers the captain’s last piece of mind being that if a chance for the team to get stronger in the years to come, to grab it.

We flash back to the present day and game…(^_^ yay) Karasuno are pulling out all these new moves and defense strategies, but Tendo points out that it looks as though Kageyama is getting exhausted from having touched the ball too much, but he shrugs it off. Shiratorizawa nearly gets match point when Ushijima serves but Nishinoya saves them (just barely) giving Asahi the chance to score a point bringing it back for Karasuno.

Trying to take advantage of Kageyama’s exhaustion, Tendo tries to look for holes, but it proves fatal when Hinata’s body moves too far to the right for a short ball, but still manages to intercept it with his left hand scoring the point and the set point. The Shiratorizawa team can’t believe it and neither can anyone else. Karasuno playing a fourth set has never occurred and Daichi is determined to see it through to the end. The score is now tied at four games a piece. See you for the next ep!

TV Recap Preview – Legion

0

Premiere Date: February 8th

Network: FX

Cast: Dan Stevens, Rachel Keller, Jean Smart, Aubrey Plaza, Jeremie Harris, Amber Midthunder, Katie Aselton, Bill Irwin

Synopsis: David Haller was diagnosed with schizophrenia at a young age, and has been a patient in various psychiatric hospitals since. After Haller has an encounter with a fellow psychiatric patient, he is confronted with the possibility that there may be more to him than mental illness. – Wikipedia.

Why we’re watching: Legion has quite an interesting premise and the trailer did a good job of selling it. It looks to be as fun and funny as it is dramatic. It’s the first Marvel television series, from Fox’s side of things, to tie into their own little X-Men Cinematic Universe, so how exactly it does that will be exciting to see. Also he’s Charles Xavier’s son and one of the most powerful characters in Marvel comics, which is enough to make those of us who don’t read the comics interested.

Gaming News 6th of January, 2017 Edition

We begin news this week from Team Red – Back in December, AMD held a Tech Summit in which they revealed details about some of their upcoming products. This week the embargo on the information regarding these products has been lifted. It’s time to bite into the juicy details of their upcoming GPU architecture code named “Vega.”

Vega builds on what their previous Polaris GPUs brought to the table in a big way: Vega will more than likely include 4,096 cores clocked at just about 1.5-1.6 GHz. AMD previously announced a new line of machine intelligence accelerators dubbed Radeon Instinct MI6, MI8 and MI25. The MI25 uses Vega and will provide up to 25 TFLOPS; this means that it will be at least 45% faster than the Fury X. This GPU power will put it way above the 1080 and even straight into Titan X territory.

Vega will also include 8GB (or even 16GB) of HBM2 memory in two stacks; these will effectively deliver 512G/s bandwidth as the four stacks did in the previous Fiji architecture. This HBM has now been renamed HMC (High-Bandwith Cache) and AMD claims this will help the GPU work with large data sets, which has become a huge problem as of late. There is a ton of more information about this upcoming GPU family, too much to mention in one post, but for those who are interested please see the links below.

Yes you saw it correctly; Stardew Valley – the easy going farming indie game – outsold Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare last year. That is no real surprise since it was reported earlier that the new installment in the much loved (hated?) franchise had performed much worse than Black Ops 3. This all leads into a report from Steam sales soothsayer Sergey Galyonkin, otherwise known as the creator of Steam Spy.

Those interested in sifting through more of the data can view the link below.

And finally, we end of with the most bizarre, but interesting, news from CES this week; Razer this week showed off its “Project Valerie” and it looks like some sort of alien technology straight out of a Star Trek installment. The concept laptop is based on the current Razer Blade Pro line of devices and features not one, not even two, but three monitors built into it (yes I said three). These are not some cheap aftermarket displays either; all three monitors are 17-inch, 4k with Nvidia’s G-Sync anti-screen tearing technology enabled, which amounts to a resolution of 11520 x 2169. The specs are no walk in the part either; with GTX 1080 on board powered by 32GB of RAM – overheating will not be a problem in this beast since the same vapor-chamber cooling solution found in the previously mention Razer Blade Pro is also found in Valerie.

This is of course a concept, however we should expect some version of this device to be brought to market in a future product.

TV Recap Preview – Riverdale

0

Premiere Date: January 26th

Network: The CW

Cast: K.J. Apa, Cole Sprouse, Camila Mendes, Lili Reinhart, Madelaine Petsch, Ashleigh Murray, Luke Perry, Ross Butler, Casey Cott, Marisol Nichols

Synopsis: A subversive take on Archie and his friends, exploring small town life, the darkness and weirdness bubbling beneath Riverdale’s wholesome facade. – IMDB.

Why we’re watching: Expectations for this show are extremely low. It looks like The Vampire Diaries, The Originals and The Secret Circle (gone too soon!); i.e. every other teen supernatural romance show on The CW (and Teen Wolf but that’s MTV). As fun and enjoyable as those four shows are – albeit not exactly the best made things on TV right now, or ever – how well their tone, style and structure will fit with the Archie brand remains to be seen.

HDMI 2.1 Will bring 10k to Screens

0

CES this week was filled with awesome new technology (and some downright strange ones) for us to talk about at length. However one that particularly caught my eye was a new HDMI standard that will soon reach the market (yes, another one). The new spec was announced at the trade show Wednesday, and it promises to bring higher-res content to faster-refresh screens for the foreseeable future.

Compatible displays will be capable of “10K” resolutions thanks to the new HDMI 2.1 standard – That 10k could imply a 16:9 multiple in line with the UHD versions of 4K (3840×2160) and 8K (7680×4320). To think it was only recently that 8k capable televisions began to surface, all with ludicrous prices attached to them. The average personn will be forgiven for not being able to grasp what 10K will truly mean. It will be a waste of time for us to calculate how many pixels that will actually be; you just have to know it’s a lot.

This HDMI spec also brings along with it an interesting feature for us gamers called “Game Mode VRR”. The VRR –  which stands for variable refresh rate – is set to be massively important for computers and consoles; usually, that’s when gamers either see “torn” or dropped frames as the hardware in question can’t draw a full frame in time for the expected 30Hz or 60Hz refresh. Displays that are built with AMD’s FreeSync and Nvidia’s G-Sync will have the ability to natively draw a frame of imagery whenever it’s read and not be locked into a set refresh cycle as it is now.

So when should we expect this new standard to hit consumer markets? No time soon is the most truthful statement we can give you at the moment. The HDMI Forum’s announcement comes well before HDMI 2.1 will be finalized and the Forum tells device manufacturers that they will have to wait until the vague time frame of “Q2/Q3 2017” to learn its exact makeup.

Stay tuned. It’s expected that more information on this exciting new standard will be made available in the upcoming weeks and months.

TV Recap Preview – The Flash

Premiere Date:
January 24th

Network: The CW

Cast: Grant Gustin, Candice Patton, Danielle Panabaker, Carlos Valdes, Tom Cavanagh, Rick Cosnett, Jesse L. Martin, Keiynan Lonsdale, Tom Felton

Synopsis: His name is Barry Allen and he is, at present – and once again –  NOT the fastest man alive (Hey Savitar). To the outside world he’s an ordinary forensic scientist. But secretly, with the help of his friends at Star Labs, he fights crime and finds other meta-humans like him. After defeating Zoom and saving the multiverse, he ran back in time and created the alternate timeline “Flashpoint.” He restored the timeline to how it was only to find things weren’t as he left them. He brought new threats to their world (AGAIN!) and he’s the only one fast enough to stop them (if

Why we’re watching: The longer this series continues the more it’s flaws are apparent, because the writers continually do the same thing. The villain is always a speedster faster than Barry that he needs to get faster to defeat and Barry always defers to time travel to fix things (despite how catastrophic the consequences turn out to be; and if the trailer for the first episode of the second half is any indication, he still hasn’t learnt that lesson). The first half of the season was spotty at best and the only real highlights were Caitlin Frost, Cisco, HR and Wally getting his powers. Really, they’re the only reasons to watch this show at this point because those characters are more interesting and compelling than Barry, especially Caitlin. The shows repetitive nature and the writers’ refusal to make Barry move forward as a character beyond him leveling up as a speedster has made this season less fun to watch than the previous two.
