Girlish Number E05 Recap

Kaetan desu! (*≧▽≦)

Chitose goes into an Animate store (an actual popular anime retail franchise in Japan) to check out how the series is doing and bumps into Koto and Yae. Although she is so pleased with having hit a 10,000 mark from just the single for the opening song, the anime is doing badly in sales. Everyone else is trying to put this bad reputation of the anime behind them and move onto greater things but Chitose is more attached to the show as it’s lead heroine and therefore, isn’t convinced that it was all bad.

It’s the final recording session and Kuzu is speaking the creator’s editor. The creator’s side is concerned with how far the anime distanced itself from the light novel in an episode, but the staff are overworked and are behind schedule. If they began making corrections now, not only would they fall even further behind, the final episode would end up being a recap.

Some time later, Chitose, Koto and Yae go to Comiket to hand out autographed postcards to fans who have pre-ordered  the Blu-Ray. A few hundred fans show up, but it proves to be not much compared to another event that has Momoka at the forefront of it. During a financial meeting, Kuzu throws Towada under the bus and then later apologizes for it and then two of them head out to a bar where Kuzu says that he has a secret plan to squeeze in the recently announced second season of Kusure.

Gojo arrives home to find Chitose in tears. She watched the post-broadcast of the Comiket event and got nothing but nasty comments from the people who were online at the time. Gojo tells her that she shouldn’t be upset (well, she brought it on herself) and that she should read some surveys from the event so that she can improve herself. Chitose however, refuses to read anything else that is bad about her and storms off.

Oh boy, what is Kuzu’s plan and will this really end up being kuzu (trash)? See you guys for the next episode!

Haikyuu!! S03E10 Recap FINAL EPISODE

Kaetan desu! (*≧▽≦)

“Volleyball is a sport of height. It is an absolute that tall players are strong. Strengthening each player is a strength and so is finding a new way to fight. There are truly various kinds of strengths. The great coach Arie Selinger once said ‘There is no reason to believe that there will be no development or changes in the future'” – Coach Ukai (Haikyuu!! Episode 10)

The deciding rotation has awarded Karasuno with an advantage to set up a back attack through Hinata, however it is clear that the team is exhausted. After he serves, Kageyama forcibly changes positions with Hinata so that he can blend into Karasuno’s synchronized attack with a minus tempo approach. The attack was well carried out but Ushijima saves and counters right back into Hinata’s face! (OUCH)

With Tsukishima finally back, he gives the team a strategy for blocking Shiratorizawa’s counters in closing in with a three man block on Ushijima’s straight to make attacking difficult for him. The plan is somewhat of a success when Ushijima is forced to change the direction of his spike form straight to left, but Kageyama was luckily there to stop his attack.

Karasuno counters with their own synchronized attack, and this time Hinata proceeds on a first tempo back attack. By that being said, Karasuno catches Shiratorizawa by surprise as Hinata was left unguarded making it easier for him to see the hole on Shiratorizawa’s defense. Hinata spikes the ball with all of his might into the clearly open unguarded area which left Shiratorizawa unable to defend. Ohira tries to lunge for the ball but it proves useless. ANd then it happens………..

THE WHISTLE BLOWS!!!! OHMAIGAWD! THE WHISTLE BLOWS!!! KARASUNO WIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIINS!! THEY HAVE WON THE MIYAGI PREFECTURAL TOURNAMENT, WHICH MEANS THEY’RE GOING TO NATIONALS!!!!!!! AAAAAAAAAAHHHHH!!!!!!!

The Shiratorizawa team is in utter shock. None of them ever expected that they would lose to a team like Karasuno that had been struggling for so very long and just barely getting through their matches. Many of them could not hold back their sorrow and eventually broke down in tears, unwilling to accept the fact that they of all teams have been defeated and that this year, they will not be playing in the nationals. It also marks the departure of Ushijima and the other third years. Tendo announces to Ushijima that he will be quitting volleyball after high school and that he will be cheering on for Ushijima, who has plans to pursue a career as a professional volleyball player with the country’s national team. Before heading out, Ushijima approaches Hinata and Kageyama and told them that he will defeat them next time. The two Karasuno players acknowledge his challenge.

The story then moves onto Karasuno preparing for the nationals, which will be held in Tokyo, as they put up posters for donations and continued with their practices, but a turn of events suddenly occurs. Kageyama has been selected to train for the National Youth Intensive Training Camp after being spotted for his skills shown at the recent televised match between Karasuno and Shiratorizawa. Though the entire team is excited about this opportunity, what could this mean for Kageyama and the team’s future? We don’t know yet, but needless to say, we’ll cross that bridge once we get to it! Thank You so much for staying on this journey with me! I’ll see you around!

Grimm S06E01 Recap

0

SOME SPOILERS AHEAD.

This episode didn’t really excite me, especially considering the high point it was jumping off of from last season. But that’s probably why it was so flat; this was the resolution that followed the climax. This was more or less just a set up episode for the rest of the season; Eve/Juliette dealing with her reemerging humanity, Nick on the run, Monroe and Rosalie’s pregnancy journey. And all of it I’m really looking forward to.

The Eve/Juliette storyline has been weird from the start. Almost like the writers didn’t know what to do with her character anymore. Her being almost pulled into the underworld  has started to tip it over into the realm of just being a little too much. Now she’s seeing magic symbols on the cloth the magic stick was wrapped in that no one else can see. Nick hasn’t looked at the cloth since being healed by it, so it’s TBD whether or not her being a hexenbiest has anything to do with it, or it you need to be healed by the stick. I don’t think Grimm has jumped the shark with her just yet, but is getting fairly close.

If Nick really is on the run for a good chunk of this season – as the next episode preview would suggested, but the end of this episode kind of doesn’t – then it would be fascinating to see him doing his work as a Grimm well and truly outside of the law. He kind of has here and there, but he always still tries to do it as a police officer first. Even if that isn’t the case and his name is cleared within the next few episodes, the end of this episode and the preview for next week gave me a lot to look forward to.

That was the high point of this episode, the last ten or so minutes. When Renard and all of the S.E.R.T. team surrounded Bob’s repair shop was when the episode started to go somewhere and get exciting. But of course, that’s where it ended. It looks like they’re in the spice shop in the next episode, so I’m intrigued to see how they get out of Bob’s shop. And also just to see Nick-Renard beat up the real Renard. He’s had it coming for a while now.

Monroe and Rosalie are the heart of this show in my opinion. Let’s be honest, this show got off to a pretty bad start. But the one shining light was Monroe. For a very long time he was the only reason I watched Grimm. He’s a fun and charming character and has always been my favourite. He and Rosalie are the cutest couple and we’ve all been waiting for them to have baby. Now it’s finally happening.

Random thoughts:

  1. Glad someone in the precinct believes in Nick.
  2. I understand Adalind making the choices she has for the sake of her kids, but I do not like damsel-in-distress, whining on the phone pleading for Nick to come to her Adalind.
  3. They actually addressed body disposal.
  4. I knew meeting at Bob’s would be a bad idea.

Grimm airs Fridays at  8 PM on NBC.

Sweet Like Honey, Smooth Like Jazz; Sweet Honey Jazz

The launch of the first Honey Jazz Barbados Festival – an expansion of the Honey Jazz concert  – promised an exciting four days of music and merriment, as those behind it highlight the immense amount of musical talent that Barbados has to offer. The second music festival and the third arts related festival for the month, it is safe to say that the oft neglected arts and culture spheres in Barbados are getting some much needed attention this year.

Producer Ebonnie Rowe gave an overview of what is to come during the festival; a Nina Simone musical tribute followed by a fund raising screening of the Academy Award nominated film What Happened Miss Simon? at Limegrove, ‘A Tisket, A Tasket’, a free Ella Fitzgerald tribute at the Lighthouse Garden of the Hilton Barbados Resort, the Honey Jazz Gala Concert at the Frank Collymore Hall and the After Polo Jazz Party at Holders Hill.

Rowe encouraged those in attendance to participate in the “Sponsor A Student” drive, the aim of which is to afford young music students the opportunity to attend the Honey Jazz Gala concert. She went on to explain that the Honey Jazz concert is meant to be a vehicle through which the island’s youth can be exposed to and gain an appreciation for jazz.

Performers at the various events include Kellie Cadogan, Betty Payne, Nikita Browne, Debbie Reifer and Rhesa Garnes, Stefan Walcott, Romario Greaves, Neil Newton and Andre Forde, the KC Quartet and Marius Charlemagne and NJ30+ Band.

Robert Chase from Barbados Tourism Marketing Inc. stressed how events like Honey Jazz can develop Barbadian artists, who can then use their talents to raise the name of Barbados on the world stage and cited DJ Puffy as a recent example as one such person who has done so.

Interim CEO of title sponsor First Citizens Bank Barbados Ltd, Carole Eluthere-JnMarie, appropriately quoted the famous Shakespearean line “If music be the food of love, play on, Give me excess of it…” And play one they did.

A live band performed throughout the launch and it ended with an impromptu performance – complete with musical instruments – and a “battle of the sexes” scat off. As Rowe herself said, it was not your typical launch.

The Honey Jazz Barbados Festival will be held on January 23rd, 26th, 28th and 29th. For more information, visit their Facebook page.

TV Recap Preview – Sense8

0

Premiere date: May 5th

Network: Netlfix

Cast: Doona Bae, Jamie Clayton, Tina Desai, Tuppence Middelton, Max Riemelt, Miguel Ángel Silvestre, Brian J. Smith, Freema Agyeman, Terrence Mann, Naveen Andrews, Daryl Hannah, Toby Onwumere

Synopsis: From the creators of “The Matrix” and “Babylon 5” comes this tense series in which eight people can telepathically experience each other’s lives. – Netflix.

Why we’re watching: The first season of this show was exquisite. The execution of the premise may not have been perfect, but it was amazing nonetheless and was a very pleasant surprise. The story is incredible, characters are compelling and the more time we get to spend with them and learn about them the better. The Christmas Special was not the best, but it hasn’t dampened any excitement for the upcoming season.

America’s Next Top Model C23E05 Recap

0

SOME SPOILERS AHEAD.

The challenge this week was not very exciting. I did for the most part like the outfits the girls came up with, though.

Paige, Binta, Tatiana, Marissa and India had my favourite looks. I didn’t hate what Krislian was wearing, but she didn’t step out of her sexy image at all. Even if she wore a short dress to look tall, if she wanted to get away from the type of sexy she’s been displaying so far, she should have worn something looser and more covered. Like what she wore at panel. Coryanne doesn’t seem to understand what the word eclectic means; her look was very uniform. Tatiana absolutely deserved to win the challenge.

The girls really turned it out for the avant garde photo shoot this week. As a group they did a lot better than they have for the entirety of the cycle. The calling order for panel was more about choosing whose photo was more amazing than whose. Except for Krislian, Giah and Kyle (the bottom three, deservedly) everyone just brought it and truly looked like high fashion, editorial models.

Cory, Cody and Courtney had my favourite photos. Cory seems to only do well after she has been in the bottom two. She is very inconsistent and her inconsistencies are too far apart. She doesn’t rise or fall a little, it’s significant; she’s either very good or very bad. Cody was strong, commanding and a little intimidating, but mesmerising. I would have called Courtney and Binta over Tatiana; Courtney’s photo was stunning as usual, but she was probably called lower because of her personality (Drew should not have had to tell her the same thing two weeks in a row) and although it took me a while to find Binta’s face in her photo (the size and colour of her dress were distracting), it was still gorgeous. I loved Tatiana’s pose but I would have liked to see more of her face.

I loved India’s face in her photo. Krislian was “meh” and looked like she was going to a haute couture funeral. Paige looked like a stunning corpse. Marissa was a little better than “meh” and I wish I had seen the front of her dress (this is the second week in which she took a photo backing the camera).

It should have been obvious to me that Kyle would end up in the bottom two this week. The producers focused on her a lot more this episode than they have in the previous ones. And if years of watching ANTM has taught me anything, it’s that when someone gets a lot of attention in an episode – especially a lot more than usual – its very likely they’re going home. But she didn’t.

The downside of Kyle getting more exposure, is that her attitude became very apparent. I’d first noticed it at last week’s judging and I did not appreciate it this week. She’s coming off as very stubborn and like thinks she knows best. Also the more she spoke, the more I realised that she does not have a voice that is particularly pleasant to listen to for long periods. She has a very whiny tone to her voice and is starting to look as whiny as Courtney.

Her performance during the personal style challenge with Law and the photo shoot were quite indicative of her overall performance in the competition thus far. And it’s not enough anymore. The other girls are growing leaps and bounds and really pushing, whereas Kyle is just coasting along on her “cool” factor and not changing it up at all. She’s not putting in as much effort, it seems, as she could be. She does well and her photos are good, but that’s all that can be said about them. So far, she hasn’t been great.

As to the other half of the bottom two, Giah, I was surprised she was sent home over Kyle.

Compared to Kyle – and most of the other girls if we’re being honest here – she has done worse over the course of the competition so far. In fact, she may well have been the worst overall of the girls who were left. She really didn’t show herself to have model potential – aside from having a pretty face – the entire time she was there. She did poorly at the challenge and not much better at the shoot. I love her personality (which is what I thought would have saved her over Kyle; she seems more willing to absorb critique and learn from it), but don’t like her as a model.

Random thoughts:

  1. Coryanne’s weave looks terrible.
  2. Krislian: “I’m very inspired by Jennifer Lopez, who has a body I can relate to…” You do not look like JLO.
  3. Coryanne: “I just have off moments.” You’ve been off more than you’ve been on.
  4. Coryanne didn’t mentioned being model adjacent this week.

America’s Next Top Model airs Mondays at 10 PM on VH1.

TV Recap Preview – Marvel’s Iron Fist

0

Premiere date: March 17th

Network: Netlfix

Cast: Finn Jones, Jessica Henwick, David Wenham, Jessica Stroup, Tom Pelphrey, Rosario Dawson.

Synopsis: A young man is bestowed with incredible martial arts skills and a mystical force known as the Iron Fist. – IMDB.

Why we’re watching: The last member of The Defenders is almost here! Netflix continues to hit it out of the park with these Marvel Comics adaptations, so expectations for this show being good are fairly high. Finn Jones played a small role on Game of Thrones (R.I.P. Loras Tyrell), playing the lead in this series should give his fans more of a sense of his ability as an actor and it’s always nice to see actors from that show get work outside of it. The trailer was pretty good and only made us fans of the MCU want more.

TV Recap Preview – Once Upon a Time

0

Premiere date: Sometime in March

Network: ABC

Cast: Jennifer Morrison, Lana Parrilla, Jared Gilmore, Ginnifer Goodwin, Josh Dallas, Robert Carlyle, Emilie de Ravin and Colin O’Donoghue.

Synopsis: Regina’s dark half – the Evil Queen – continues to exist despite her heart being crushed; unburdened by a conscience, the Evil Queen has declared war on the heroes. Meanwhile, Aladdin’s past as the previous Saviour becomes a new factor in Emma’s role as the current Saviour, and is about to be pushed to the limits, which could lead her to a future that has no happy ending for her, while Gold must deal with trying to win Belle’s heart again so they can be a family for their future child. – Wikipedia.

Why we’re watching: The first half of this season was very disappointing considering the Regina/Evil Queen storyline just floundered as did everyone else’s and there are zero stakes and no tension at all when it comes to Emma dying. Pretty much everything they’ve done so far has fallen flat. But it’s not time to give up on this show just yet. It’s still, for the most part, enjoyable.

Nokia Back?

0

It’s not the big return we wanted, but it’s exciting nonetheless. Nokia has official signaled its return to the smartphone world via its official website. The company “HMD” which is filled with former employees from the old Nokia brand revealed the “Nokia 6” smartphone- this device runs “the latest version” of Android Nougat and is made out of a single block of aluminum with a 5.5-inch “HD” screen on deck.

With the arrival of Nokia 6, consumers will see superior craftsmanship and design quality in action. It takes 55 minutes to machine a single Nokia 6 from a solid block of 6000 series aluminium. It then receives two separate anodising processes, taking over ten hours to complete, with each phone being polished no less than five times. The end result is an aluminium unibody with the highest level of visual and structural quality.

This is great news for the Nokia Brand, however a flagship is needed. This specs will not impress reviewers or general consumers, so if HMD is determined to bring Nokia back to what it once was, they need to step up their game.

Haikyuu!! S03E09 Recap

Kaetan desu! (*≧▽≦)

OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

When we last left off, Shiratorizawa was at match point and all seemed lost for Karasuno when good ol’ reliable Tsukishima returned to the court. While he was frustrated about leaving, he did trust that his teammates would buy some time until he returned and so, he sat calmly in the infirmary thinking of what he could do when he got back out onto the court. The bleeding was suppressed and the finger that was badly injured is now taped up and has been immobilized, although the pain has not faded.

Tsukishima return to the court and immediately starts setting up three man block attacks and he tells Kageyama that even though he is injured that he shouldn’t hold back. When Shirabu sets up a back attack for Ushijima, Tsukishima creates his first one touch situation since returning, but at the cost of pain surging through his injured hand. The ball bounces back to their side three times before Tsukishima and Kageyama enact a fake slider hit and Tanaka  barely scores Karasuno the break point they so desperately needed.

The team is in high spirits but their physique is clearly beginning to crumble from all they’ve been through, especially Asahi, Daichi and Tanaka. Since both teams have used up all available time-outs Daichi tells the team that even though the Shiratorizawa players may seem bigger and stronger, Karasuno, their teamwork and determination with persistent attacking have gotten them this far and they shouldn’t allow anything to deter them.

Nishinoya was so cool here!!!! As expected of Karasuno’s libero! He did two spectacular consecutive saves to create an opening for Karasuno to score and Tsukishima shut out so many of Shirabu’s setups just from following the ball and using all of his concentration! The rotation is 100% in favor of a super attack on Karasuno’s side! What will they do?! OMG what will they do?!

See you next episode!
