The Flash S03E11 Recap

0

SOME SPOILERS AHEAD.

This episode is the best and greatest argument for why Barry should never have told Iris that she is going to die. Who knew that she had it in her to be far more reckless than Wally?

The writers of this show seem to have finally remembered that Iris actually has a job; a life beyond being Barry’s girlfriend, Joe’s daughter and Wally’s sister. Seriously, it feels like forever since we last saw her being a reporter. She decides to follow a lead about an arms dealer who is supplying criminals with very advanced weaoponry, despite Joe, Barry and even Wally telling her it’s a bad idea. She promises not to, but we all knew that that was a lie.

When not just Joe but Barry and Wally – Wally! – tells you shouldn’t do something, you should listen Iris!

The only part of Iris’s little misadventure that I enjoyed was when she almost gave Joe a heart attack. His reaction was priceless! Pretending to talk about wanting to have children, then reframing it as a conversation about what kind of pet to get Barry was an amazing and hilarious distraction tactic.

Other than that, I was quite annoyed with her. Especially when she walked right up to thr arms dealer and dared him to kill her. That was the stupidest, most reckless, most ridiculous thing she has ever done in the entirety of this show. I get that she was confident that she would not die because, thanks to Barry, she knows exactly how and when she will, but that does not mean she is to throw her life away.

I understand her angst and I would have been able to sympathise with her if her reasoning for her behaviour was “I’m going to die anyway, so what’s the point of being careful.” That would have been believable. That would have made me feel for her. But the writers decided “I’m not afraid of dying; I’m afraid of dying and not making me mark on the world and making a name for myself” is far more compelling.

It’s not.

That in and of itself is not a bad reason. But the lengths she went to were too far for that to be a reasonable justification. She told someone to kill her because she wants to be memorable outside of Team Flash. She says she wants to make a difference in the world before she dies, but writing that story doesn’t exactly accomplish that. The way she wants to “make a difference” comes off more like she is just trying to be famous.

Cisco fell for yet another bad girl and this time it was Gypsy; the Collector from Earth-19. Only Cisco would flirt with someone and ask them on a date when they’re attacking him and his friends. Clearly he was distracted by her beauty when he agreed to the trial by combat.

Considering how mean he’s been to HR it was confusing that he would then turn around and risk his life for him. Even more so when his lack of experience as a fighter and the fact that he doesn’t have much of a grip on or understanding of his powers are factored in. It really would have made more sense for Barry to do it. But as Gypsy demonstrated earlier, she had her ways of literally stopping a speedster in his tracks.

Ignoring all of that, though, it was nice that Cisco got a moment to shine and once he explained why he was putting his life on the line for HR it made a bit more sense. His relationship with the Wellses is complicated.

Fie on Barry – and HR – for going behind Cisco’s back and trying to take care of Gypsy himself. That was contradictory to his expression of confidence in Cisco and the fact that he did it because of his own feelings of inadequacy makes it even worse. He made it about him. HR and Cisco’s lives were on the line and he put them – HR more than Cisco – in greater jeopardy because he was feeling insecure.

I don’t think Cisco actually won the trial by combat. The rules said that it was a fight to the death. Not that Cisco would ever have killed her, but in such a situation knocking her on her butt would not and should not be enough to qualify as a victory. If he had knocked her out, sure, but not getting one good punch in. That really didn’t make any sense.

From the moment that Julian said, at the beginning of the episode, that Barry is not progressing quickly enough to reach the speed he needs to in order to save Iris in time, I said to myself that they should have Wally do it. Why it took Barry until the end of the episode to think of that is beyond me. Why Julian didn’t think of that at all is beyond me. It was the obvious solution.

Random thoughts:

  1. Iris: “I’m still a journalist Barry.” Really? You don’t seem to do it much anymore.
  2. Joe is already noticing her odd behaviour. He’ll find out very soon.
  3. Barry: “How do we ever know if our actions now will impact the future?” You’re worried about his now?! Also, I don’t know, have Cisco vibe you to the future again maybe?
  4. Trial by combat? Is her Earth Westeros?
  5. Please never teach Julian to be a better person.
  6. If this is 24 hours later why is it a different time of day?
  7. When is Cisco going to get a long term love interest?
  8. I do not like Cisco’s suit.

The Flash airs Tuesdays at 8 PM on The CW.

Riverdale S01E01 Recap

0

SOME SPOILERS AHEAD.

This will be the first and last recap for Riverdale. Where do I even start with this show?

By the 4:59 mark of this episode I was dying. This show is filled with tropes and cliches and it is incredibly annoying. The show tries – very hard – to be subversive about them, but it fails. Nothing about it feels even remotely subversive or satirical. In so doing it feels highly derivative and it missed it’s window about five to eight years ago. The creators need to bring something else to the table to make this show stand out among already successful shows of this nature and makes it different. The only real “twist” or originality that the creators of this show tried to inject was slapping the Archie name on top of it. And that is not enough.

This first episode was painful to watch and uninteresting and so were it’s characters.

Archie is supposed to be the tortured musician who just wants to do his music (and has a gag-worthy line about it in the beginning when he is telling Betty how he discovered his love for music). But he has to chose between that and football and working for his father. Of course, by the end of the episode he doesn’t actually choose because he works out the perfect way in which he can do all three.

Also, he was sleeping with this music teacher over the summer; the very much younger and more attractive Ms. Grundy. They even did a slow motion shot with him wiping his brow with his shirt, while Grundy drove past and eyed him like a predator. Inappropriate relations between teacher and student are so outdated in fiction they’re not even scandalous anymore. Especially not how it was done here. It’s just old and tired.

Betty is the very smart girl who is in love with her best friend and has an overbearing mother and is on medication, as well as a tragic past involving her sibling. And just wants to live for herself for once and not do anything for anyone else. She also has a gay best friend and really wants to be a cheerleader.

Veronica, the most interesting of the trio, is the reformed spoiled little rich girl. Because she is from New York, she immediately latches onto the one, very cliche gay best friend character and spews pop culture references like no one else does. She has perhaps one of the worst and most nonsensical scenes in the episode when she randomly approaches Betty and Archie and asks about onion rings, then goes into a long info dump about herself and telling the two things about her that they didn’t even ask about.

Jughead doesn’t even matter or come into play because he is a side character – at least in this episode – and serves as narrator. He hardly shows up and is a loner and writer who is writing a novel about the events of the show (as they happen?). And he’s not friends with Archie.

By the halfway point when it really sunk in what kind of show this was, I just watched it and didn’t think about what was happening. I essentially turned my brain off. But it still didn’t draw me in. Nothing about it was compelling or made me want to see the rest of it. The murder mystery isn’t intriguing and the storylines for the characters are bland. This show is clearly not for me and I figured as much when I watched the trailer. At this point I can say that I won’t be watching any more of it.

Random thoughts:

  1. Why is she standing in front of her bedroom window, in a bra, facing Archie’s bedroom window?
  2. That lens flare.
  3. Veronica: “My mom and I just moved here.” No one asked you that.
  4. So much contrived angst.
  5. No one asked you all of that Josie! Is she going to be the stereotypical sassy black girl?
  6. What makes Archie think anyone cares about his music?
  7. Cheryl: “Is being a gay best friend still a thing?” This show seems to think so.
  8. All of these pop culture references that add nothing.
  9. If these are your “moves” Veronica I don’t see how you ever became a cheerleader.
  10. Cheryl: “Faux lesbian kissing hasn’t been taboo since 1994.” This whole show is outdated.
  11. Coming on real strong there Veronica. You barely know Betty.
  12. She called him Archie-kins out of nowhere. That was not at all earned or justified.
  13. Archie’s Dad: “Three months ago, you did. What happened?” He had sex.
  14. Veronica: “Can’t we…be all things?” That’s what this show is trying to make Archie.
  15. That’s his argument? He isn’t and never will be good enough for her?

How to Get Away With Murder S03E10 Recap

0

SOME SPOILERS AHEAD.

I really liked how this episode had flashbacks of Wes’ individual interactions with Annalise and the Keating Five, now the Keating Four (unless you count Oliver). It was a nice send off for Wes and for each of the main characters to have their little moments with him to say goodbye. In some ways, it gave the characters and the viewers a small measure of closure.

For the most part at least, because we still don’t know how or why Wes died and who did it.

This episode presented a suspect who was pointed to last season; Frank. Laurel firmly believe it’s him – or is lashing out in her grief – and that’s somewhat believable; he killed Wes because he found out that he and Laurel were together. I’m not thoroughly convinced it’s him, though, or that he would kill Wes for something like that. I don’t really believe that he did it. I’m far more certain that he’s just offering himself up as a scapegoat or as some form of atonement or maybe even both.

Speaking of Laurel, she confirmed that Wes is the father of her baby. This is hardly any surprise to anyone.

The other suspect, or rather suspects, was the Mahoney family. This I can believe. We see what they did to Wes’ mother. I think they’d kill the child of the woman they had killed, especially if he was Wallace’s son as well and had ties with Annalise Keating. I’m not sure how they would have found out Wes is Wallace’s son, but if this is the case we will find out in flashback at some later point in the season. I hadn’t considered it could be them before it was brought up, but now I can see it and the Mahoney’s are number one on my list of suspects.

I loved how Annalise’s booking process was juxtaposed with Wes’s autopsy and really demonstrated how some of the procedures are very similar or exactly the same. It was disturbing but very, very interesting. The medical examiner drawing a different conclusion from the one she had previously, though common, leaves me thinking that there was some meddling involved there. But I’m always suspicious of things in this show.

As capable as I believe Bonnie to be, although she didn’t really prove that this week, I don’t think that her being Annalise’s lawyer is particularly wise given their history and relationship. At the same time, however, I can’t think of anyone else who could be. Annalise has a reputation and I’m sure no one else would want to represent her, plus, Bonnie knows all of Annalise’s secrets. I may just be a little biased, but I didn’t think that the prosecution brought enough evidence to justify Annalise not being granted bail. I was so mad that Bonnie’s own argument got used against her, but beyond that, anyone could have written those notations. How does the judge know for certain that Wes made them? It wasn’t even signed! That should be enough to throw out their so called “evidence.”

I like Annalise’s bunk mates. The only good thing about her being in jail is the two of them and getting to see more of those characters in the foreseeable future. I especially like the older one, Jasmine. Her speech to Annalise, I hope, reignited a fire within her. Annalise is so down and dejected and like she’s resigned herself to being in prison. And tired. I want the fierce Annalise back. The “Queen” that Jasmine said she was and still can be. The old Annalise needs to come back.

Random thoughts:

  1. That’s not how that works Laurel.
  2. Could Connor please stop being such an asshole?
  3. Go Asher!
  4. Can Frank catch a break?!

How to Get Away With Murder airs Thursday nights at 10 PM on ABC.

Scandal S06E01 Recap

0

SOME SPOILERS AHEAD.

Scandal is back with a bang! Literally. The episode opened with an explosion (a very bad CGI explosion but an explosion nonetheless) and then flashed back to the events leading up to it.

We got to find out who won the Scandal election and, unsurprisingly, it wasn’t Mellie. I never thought that she was going to win. I couldn’t see that many people voting for her. But apparently, very many did because the race was a close call between her and the winner, Francisco Vargas. But just when we – and Mellie – think she suffered a crippling defeat, the writers (as always) throw in an unexpected twist; Francisco was shot and gravely injured. And then died. Unceremoniously.

Ignoring the implications of his death and what it meant for the presidency for a moment, I was a little disappointed that this is how that character was written off the show. I really liked Frankie. He was one of my favourite characters from last season and one of the few on this show who didn’t have questionable morals or resorted to underhanded dealings to succeed. He was a genuinely good person. He legitimately won the election then to just die? Just like that? Couldn’t do Frankie any better?

When he died and the presidency was left up in the air and David told Fitz it was up to him to choose the next president, I was sure it would have gone to Mellie. That is a way that I could believe her becoming president. And like Olivia said, I think she would do an amazing job at it. But then Fitz gave it to Cyrus. Cyrus! Mellie lost not once, but twice. That had to have been rough. Especially after the talk she had with Fitz on the balcony.

I would have really liked to see Mellie as president but, alas, it was not meant to be.

I 110% believed that it was Cryus who had Frankie killed after Papa Pope made his argument as to why it was him. Before then I was a little iffy on that assertion, because Cyrus always seemed to want to be the man behind the man in power, not the man in power himself. But after their investigation turned up no evidence that it was him I’m not so certain anymore.

He did seem terribly shaken up by Frankie’s death; which is believable because Cryus did actually like and care for the man. But on the other hand, it’s believable that he would have pretended. But then he looked to be taken by surprise when Olivia confronted him at the end of the episode. But he could have been acting there as well. I was so back and forth coming on to the end that at this point I can’t pick a side. I need more information.

It is clear, though, that there is some kind of conspiracy behind Frankie’s death. Why someone would want him dead remains to be seen. The woman Quinn and Huck were looking for obviously had something to do with it. But there is the question of her willingness as a participant and why Cyrus was chosen as a scapegoat. That is, if he is a scapegoat and not the mastermind behind the whole thing.

Whatever the whole conspiracy is, we’ll find out over the course of the season. Olivia is a woman with a mission and she always gets her man!

Random thoughts:

  1. Why was Fitz’s information wrong?
  2. Fitz asking the question we all have on our minds.
  3. do not want Cyrus as president.
  4. I love it when Fitz throws around his power as president and gets all commanding.
  5. I was so convinced it was Cyrus!

The Flash S03E10 Recap

0

SOME SPOILERS AHEAD.

This entire episode was just set up. The first half was set up for the second half and the second half was set up for the rest of the season.  I thought episode nine had already set up the rest of the season, i.e. prevent Iris’ death, but this episode goes further than that into exactly how Team Flash will go about it.

Before Team Flash could come together to formulate a plan of action, Barry had to tell Iris about her impending death. And Barry only told the rest of Team Flash because Iris told him to. It’s probably not helpful to tell Iris that she is going to die and especially how long she has before it happens. I don’t understand why Joe is the only person left out of the loop and why it isn’t Iris instead. It makes sense for Barry to tell the rest of Team Flash because he needs their help, but also so they know what is going on with him when Barry acts out (like he usually does).

This show being this show though, Joe will find out because the writers apparently are very much against secrets.

The actual way Team Flash intends to prevent Iris’ death doesn’t make a lot of sense when you think about it. They are predicating their entire operation on headlines from a news crawl Barry saw when he travelled to the future. But they have absolutely no evidence that these specific events are part of the cause and effect chain that will lead to Savitar killing Iris. If anything, the fact that Barry told Plunder that he is living with someone now is probably what does it. Why he would tell a criminal he has something to lose is beyond me.

Hell, it may even happen because they brought Julian onto Team Flash. He was Savitar’s right hand man. His greatest disciple. How do they even know that he is no longer under Savitar’s sway? Barry knows that Savitar is not going to stay in the speed force because he sees him killing Iris four months into the future. Why would you then invite the one person who did his bidding into your team? Even if Julian is free of Savitar now, who says he will be later? It is the dumbest decision ever. Team Flash has created a huge vulnerability for themselves.

It is far more believable that that is what leads to Iris dying than a random news crawl. In any case, we all know that Iris won’t die and Caitlin won’t become Killer Frost. So there are no real stakes there. The only thing to look forward to from the crawl is Grodd.

The other West sibling, Wally, was the focus of this episode as well. He’ s been training with Barry for the last month and is eager to not just stand by and watch Barry. After they save Matt Parkman from a fire, Parkman derides Wally and his usefulness as a hero. Which of course, Wally over hears. I’m glad that Joe showed the utmost confidence and pride in Wally in that moment and defended him. It was the sweetest thing. But the writers of this show seem incapable of letting or unwilling to let their characters grow and learn.

Why’d they have to go and give Wally a reason to be the reckless little boy he always is? I get that a major part of who he is as a person is a constant need to prove himself, but can he get over that at some point? Can he actually make a responsible decision for once?

Then Wally does what he always does and disobeys Barry. When Barry chewed him out for it, Joe of all people chewed out Barry for not letting Wally get in on the action.

Firstly, Wally has only been training for a month. Sure, he is progressing as a speedster faster than Barry ever did, but as was stated in the episode, his speed and his experience in using his powers to fight crime are two different things. A month is hardly any time for him to train. Secondly, it is completely outside of Joe’s character not to be overprotective. Especially of Wally. Joe himself said so. His insistence that Barry throw Wally into the deep end made no sense and was inconsistent with his characterisation. The writers only did that to make Barry look like a douche. The plot is strong with this one.

Random thoughts:

  1. Matt Parkman?!
  2. CGI in this show is still terrible.
  3. I missed Cisco.
  4. The ever convenient crimes that keep Barry from telling Iris about his nightmares.
  5. Why did Barry get alerts for crimes on his phone before but then Cisco had to run into the room to tell him about a robbery in progress?
  6. Iris: “I forgot this place existed.” So did we.
  7. Why so mean Cisco?

The Flash airs Tuesday nights at 8 PM on The CW.

Nokia and Orange to develop 5G Networks

0

Nokia has partnered up with the Orange Group (a French multinational telecommunications corporation) to develop future 5G mobile networks. This announcement was made on Nokia’s official site in a press release that went on to state the following:

  • Joint definition and test platform deployment of 5G-based applications to enable new services for consumer and vertical markets
  • Companies will leverage ultra-low latency, highly reliable 5G communications using ultra-broadband, cloud RAN, massive MIMO, network slicing, energy efficiency and IoT applications
  • Joint, open innovation platforms to be established in France tapping local Nokia and Orange R&D expertise

As with the first implementation of 4G technology, 5G promises to deliver great improvements to data speeds, improve network latency, as well as enable new capabilities for the “internet of things” to leverage.

The post on the website went on to say:

Under a new collaboration agreement, Nokia and Orange will drive the definition and development of these new services, with a focus on making the transition from 4G to 5G network connectivity in the most efficient way in terms of power, operations, and cost effectiveness, and with the highest level of quality and reliability. Furthermore, the companies will build on existing joint innovation programs, as well as work with other partners, to develop, trial and introduce solutions that will make 5G a commercial reality and drive the digital transformation of vertical industries.

The higher bandwidth 5G will bring, will aid in applications such as 8K and VR gaming, which is great news for Netflix lovers and gamers respectively. 5G itself is still a developing technology, of which the average consumer will not yet comprehend till the appropriate technology is released to handle this massive upgrade to telecommunications.

The Barbados Independent Film Fesitval 2017

0

The first iteration of the Barbados Independent Film Festival was held from January 11th -15th, with screenings taking place at the brand new Walled Garden Theatre at the Barbados Museum and Historical Society, The Errol Barrow Centre for Creative Imagination and Limegrove Cinemas. Along with those from Barbados, films from the U.S.A, Peru, Croatia, Ethiopia, Mexico, Australia, Haiti, Martinique and Trinidad and Tobago were selected for the festival. The festival also hosted a workshop with American film, stage and TV actor and playwright Stephen Lang at The St. Michael School, as well as workshops at Limegrove Cinemas, Limegrove Lifestyle Centre, Radisson Hotel and the Barbados Museum and Historical Society.

The Opening Night

There were more people in attendance than I would have expected considering the type of event this was. There was a very good turn out. The crowd grew steadily as the pre-screening reception went on and although the screening was not full, it was close to it.

Stephen Lang, if your familiarity with his work does not extend beyond Avatar and Don’t Breathe (like mine), is far more personable than those on screen personas would suggest. His film Beyond Glory displayed the boundless talent he possess as an actor. The film itself, though too long in my opinion given it’s form, is a compelling, moving, at times hilarious and deeply human work of art. It is not for everyone however; it is essentially recordings of various performances of Lang’s one man show stage production edited together and does not have much of anything in the way of spectacle or action. The viewer is watching Lang recite lines with bare minimum costume and props. But Lang’s performance is so incredibly powerful that it is captivating to say the least. Any fan of his that wants to get a better idea of his range as an actor should watch it.

Lang presented Trinidadian soca super star Machel Montano with the first Barbados Independent Film Festival Award for Artistic Excellence. In his presentation he praised Montano not only as a musician, but as an actor as well for his lead role in Bazodee.

Upon his acceptance of the award, Montano spoke of the need for the telling of Caribbean stories in film and how technology allows young filmmakers to do so. He also stated that Caribbean people have a lot in common and when looking at diversity we must not forget about our similarities.

Lang himself was presented with the Barbados Independent Film Festival Founders Award and a bottle of Mount Gay XO.

The Screenings

Of all of the films I got to see – Beyond GloryH20Catching the SunDivergeZora’s DreamSweet BottomA Caribbean DreamBarbados Surfer GirlAin’t No FishSaving Our Turtles Aloysius 2, and Bazodee – Diverge was by far my favourite.

The night that it was screened – Friday the 13th – there was quite a crowd for the first half of the presentations, but after the intermission – when Diverge screened – the Walcott Warner Theatre of the Errol Barrow Centre was practically empty. Those who left missed an outstanding film. There were some technical difficulties (when it first started there was no audio) that threatened the screening, but those were thankfully worked out. Having seen this film and experienced how great it is, the idea of maybe never having seen it is disappointing.

This is a film that anyone who appreciates film as an art form and loves science fiction should see. Especially if you love subtle storytelling and films that do not spoon feed their audience. It is perhaps not as accessible to people unfamiliar with [mild spoiler] time travel; theoretically and the way it is presented in film [mild spoiler], but this is an exceptional film none the less.

Catching the SunA Caribbean DreamBarbados Surfer GirlAin’t No Fish and Aloysius 2 were also favourites of mine that I enjoyed.

Overall the films I saw at the festival were quite good. However, there were two or three that were not good and/or underwhelming.

As to the Walled Garden Theatre, grateful as I am that it exists, it would be very nice if anyone not seated in the front row could see the screen in its entirety. The seating is all on one level, so it is necessary to painfully crane your neck around the heads of the persons in front of you – and hope you don’t block the persons behind you –  in order to see. Only about a little less than half of the screen is unobstructed and that’s only at the very top.

The Awards

Not surprisingly – albeit disappointingly – not that many of the awards went to Barbadian films and filmmakers. I understand that it is an international film festival and just because it is called the Barbados Independent Film Festival does not mean that it is solely catering to or awarding Barbadian films and filmmakers. But it is disheartening when your country is hosting an event and more or less loses.

It cannot be expected, and is perhaps a little unfair, for Barbadian films (particularly those unlike A Caribbean Dream and Sweet Bottom) to compete with foreign selections such as these which excel in the creative and technical aspects of film. Comparatively speaking, the Barbadian offerings were not as technically or creatively proficient as those from the other countries; my own film included. We fall rather short.

The ray of hope here is that Barbadian filmmakers are motivated to try harder and do better. If we can succeed overseas (e.g. DJ Puffy), then we should be able to at home.

The Finale

‘Shorts on the Beach’ was lovely. It started an hour and a half late – the scheduled time was 4:00 PM but it started closer to 5:30 PM – but this could not be helped since the sun needed to go down in order for the screenings to commence.

Despite being similar to the Walled Garden Theatre screenings, in that it was outdoor and open air, it was more comfortable (no heads to crane around), casual and relaxed and unlike the other screenings I attended, you could eat while watching the films.

The crashing of the waves at times drowned out the audio from the films, but after a time it wasn’t noticeable. Unfortunately, as is the risk with an open air screening, it rained. This did not put a damper on things, however. There is something truly magical about watching a film under the stars while reclining on a beach chair. Here’s hoping there will be more open air screenings at future iterations of the Barbados Independent Film Festival, perhaps with a tent next time.

Final Impressions

Overall the Barbados Independent Film Festival was an enjoyable event that was certainly worth going to. If this year’s selections are anything to go by, the judges have very good taste in films and I trust that going forward one can expect to see films that are just as good or maybe even better. Aside from the late start for ‘Shorts on the Beach’ and the late – unavoidable – finish for the Friday the 13th sci-fi/horror screenings, it was a well put together event. There is room to grow and a lot of potential and under the right leadership, the Barbados Independent Film Festival can really become something.

America’s Next Top Model C23E07

0

SOME SPOILERS AHEAD.

There wasn’t much of anything going on in the house in this week’s episode – except for Marissa and Binta getting into it; which was kind of “meh”, not much drama there – so we’ll just jump right into talking about the challenge and the shoot.

For this week’s challenge the girls had to learn a dance routine and come up with their own signature move, which they executed at the end. Taught by Chris Grant, choreographer to the Queen of Fierce herself Beyoncé, the girls had to dance while looking like a model. The dance routine was longer than I thought it would be and perhaps a little too complicated for beginners – even India said that it was – but the girls did fairly well with it.

Tatiana was a little stiff but she looked like a model. Marissa dancing with the smile on her face made me think “beauty pageant” and the dancing itself was…not good…which I found surprising. Kyle was a mess, but she did it with a smile and such earnestness that I can’t fault her. Courtney didn’t move much, but that’s understandable given her scoliosis. India did wonderfully; she moved well but didn’t really look like a model. Paige did very well, as was expected, but she looked like a dancer and not a model and I agree with Stacy; the face thing was weird and distracting. We didn’t get to see much of the other girls’ dancing so I can’t really speak to how they did.

It was obvious from the moment she performed that Tatiana would win the challenge. Paige was the better dancer – obviously – but Tatiana brought the “model.” She really is, as Chris said, the whole package. She wasn’t someone I was particularly looking at before in this competition, but she is quickly proving herself to be a threat and is the contestant I have pegged to win this cycle.

The girls did a music video shoot this week and, like last week’s challenge, they only had one take in which to get it right and had to dance using the choreography they had learned during the challenge.

Marissa’s conduct with Stacy was very unprofessional and bratty. I don’t exactly believe her when she says that she was actually trying to learn from her. Maybe she thinks she did, but her attitude and behaviour suggest otherwise. She even said herself that Stacy was being annoying. No one who genuinely wants to learn from someone would call them that. If it had been a real set she would have been fired and sent home. I’m glad that later on, at judging, it seemed to hit her that she had conducted herself poorly.

I agreed with Law; I did not like Corryanne’s performance in the video shoot. As incredibly adorable as she was, she didn’t look like a model, her movements were sluggish and she just wasn’t impressive. But gosh was she adorable! Marissa was stiff and underwhelming and the hat thing was cringe inducing and annoying. Cody’s wasn’t very good. Her face was stunning, but she didn’t really move much and looked a little lost. Binta look like a damn fool and was an even bigger mess than Kyle was during their lesson. Rita was right about Kyle’s take; the moment at the end was brilliant, but in the rest of it she looked awkward and like she didn’t know what she was doing. But again, she stuck to it and owned it. So while she’s fumbling she’s being very endearing.

Courtney’s was just mediocre; not bad and not good. She was another girl that didn’t move much but her face at the end was beautiful. Courtney is totally a high fashion, editorial girl, but she needs to learn to be more commercial. Tatiana was “meh.” She did so well in the challenge that I expected more of her. She kind of under performed. Paige was excellent; she was fun, youthful, energetic and cute. It was perfectly commercial and she looked beautiful. I really liked India’s; she was fierce and fun and the clothes looked amazing on her. Her take was an edgier kind of commercial than Paige’s but she didn’t dance as well as her. Some of her movements were awkward but over all, she was stellar.

Kyle and Marissa being in the bottom two was no surprise. Kyle had been going down hill for the past two episodes and Marissa really did herself a disservice during the shoot. Hopefully her spot in the bottom two has taught her a lesson. It was also no surprise that Kyle was sent home and I think she saw it coming too. Everyone did. I’m sad to see her go, but seeing her journey there over the past few episodes made it not much of a downer. I kind of wish, though, that this week’s challenge and shoot would have been something totally in her element that she would have excelled at.

Random thoughts:

  1. It’s always weird seeing the first few eliminated girls in the credits because you forget they existed.
  2. I don’t find Marissa annoying but hey, Cody is the one that lives with her. Also, I forgot she’s a twin.
  3. Is it just me or is India’s hair more vibrant?
  4. Shut up and listen Marissa.
  5. What the hell was up with Courtney and the lipstick?
  6. Wow, Courtney actually struggled for once.
  7. India’s hair and make up are so loud and colourful together.

Grimm S06E03 Recap

SOME SPOILERS AHEAD.

I know that as a viewer, I know Renard better than a character in the show who barely knows him. But barring that, if this dude believed so wholeheartedly that Renard killed the “love of his life”, why would he then go and blackmail him?! In his mind Renard already killed someone, what makes him think that Renard wouldn’t kill him to eliminate a threat? He clearly does not know who he is dealing with. And so said, so done. not even ten minutes later in the episode (it really did not feel like it was very long), Renard had him killed. That was a very stupid decision on his part.

Furthermore, if he loved or cared about Rebecca as much as he claims, he would not blackmail Renard for money. He would have gone to the police. Granted, Renard is the captain of the Portland police and it probably would not have gone anywhere because of that. Plus, Renard would have found out about him being able to place him at Rebecca’s house shortly before he discovered her body and Renard would have killed him anyway. But still, he would have done the right thing to attain “justice” for her murder, not blackmail the suspected killer.

Then the man Renard got to kill this dude, came back and threatened Renard. I thought that Renard would have gotten rid of him too, but that didn’t happen. So he is going to at least try to make good on this threat later in the season. Nick really screwed over Renard.

Speaking of, Nick’s plan was very obvious once he said he wanted Eve/Juliette to turn him into Renard, told Adalind to watch the news at 7:00 and they brought up that Renard being mayor-elect meant that once he did become mayor, he would be near untouchable. I expected him to announce Renard stepping down from being mayor, but not him going so far as to exonerate himself and clear his name. It was very smart move.

Unfortunately I won’t get to see Nick as a fugitive like I wanted to. Given his deal with Renard it means that everything will go back to normal now. Which is fine, but I think the kind of dynamic they had been hinting at in the first two episodes would have been very exciting and very different and I would have liked to see that. It’s the last season. The show is ending anyway so take a risk! Do away with the status quo and get everyone out of their comfort zone! But alas. I’m just glad they finally got one over on Renard.

Now that Nick knows that Renard had someone killed – the man Renard hired to kill him just really, foolishly, so easily spilled all the beans in such fine detail; that scene was not very believable or well written – I wonder what he will do with that information or if it will come into play later on. Perhaps even be related to when he comes back to fulfill his threat to Renard. I found it interesting that the writers chose to make Nick knowledgeable about that little fact. I’m hoping it pays off later and didn’t happen “just because.”

It was quite evident that Diana would be the one to undo Nick’s transformation as Renard. I had assumed that she would recognise that Nick was not her father when he turned around and faced her, but I guess her powers are not that extensive (until the writers call for it, that is). Her seeing Nick as Renard was one of the worst things that could have happened to him. Now we’re getting the Nick-hating Diana that I always thought she would be.

Random thoughts:

  1. Lol. Of course Monroe would sweat a little detail like the colour of Nick/Renard’s tie.
  2. I love that they added the little detail of Nick having to get used to being as tall as Renard.
  3. Lol. Hank recoiled.
  4. Come on Renard, it’s obvious Adalind had something to do with it. She is a terrible actress (Adalind, not the actress playing her).
  5. You know you can’t explain this away Renard.
  6. He doesn’t even want Adalind anymore.
  7. Lol. They all recoiled from Nick/Renard.

Netflix Enables Offline Storage to SD cards

0

Netflix pushed an update to its mobile application for Android yesterday that gives users the ability to store its content offline onto a microSD card. This follows the company’s recent announcement that they will now be allowing users to download content from the service for offline use.

It is important to keep in mind that offline content will eventually expire. The time limit for each series will vary, but will eventually disappear from storage. Netflix also states that this feature will not support all Android devices with microSD (but should work on the most recent ones).
The update’s version number is 4.13.0 build 14540. Still waiting on a statement from Apple of when they will support the same feature…(jokes)
