Animekon VIII: Limitless Dates Changed

0

The wait for the arrival of the Barbadian pop culture convention just got a little bit longer. But don’t despair Animekon fans and faithful, it’s only been pushed by a week. In a departure from its usual end of August occurrence, the next edition of the convention will this year be held on September 2nd and 3rd at the home of Animekon; the Lloyd Erskine Sandiford Centre in Two Mile Hill, St. Michael.

The convention – which caters to fans of video games, films, TV, books, comics, anime and cosplay – has seen exponential growth in it’s eight years of operation and has expanded to include a cosplay catamaran cruise, which precedes the convention, an after party and a Geekcation package for convention goers outside of Barbados.

Aside from its annual cosplay competition – which is undoubtedly its main event – it hosts the Trivia Kon, Karaoke Kon, Ramen Eating and Sally Up Challenge competitions, as well as panels with local creatives and entrepreneurs and international guests (whom have included Yaya Han, Phil Lamarr, Kelly Hu, D-Piddy, Kamui Cosplay, Maki Roll, Princess Mentality, Christian Howard, Meagan Marie, Junkers Cosplay, Tim Waggoner, Long Island Joe and Jayem Sison).

The themes for this year’s convention and those which will follow in 2018 and 2019 were announced on September 9th of last year, in a video which can be viewed below. To learn more about Animekon, visit their website and their Facebook page and watch the after movie from last year’s convention below.

Kaetan desu! (*≧▽≦)

In her drunken state from the last episode, Momoka and Chitose carry Kazuha home to her apartment (the latter reluctantly) to find her mother surprisingly waiting in the apartment. She saw the swimsuit ad and got terribly worried at Kazuha’s workload.

The next day, Kazuha’s mother shows up again at a Kuzure recording unannounced which upsets her immensely. We can see that Kuzuha is terribly bothered by her presence in the studio. Throughout the recording, Momoka seems a bit resentful by Kazuha’s attitude towards her mother as her parents don’t seem to have any time for her at all. When she tries to get Kazuha to speak to her father on the phone, Kuzu takes the phone and completely goes off the rails about the work Kazuha does. He makes her sound as though she is doing work just to appeal to the opposite sex.

When he upsets her father, Kuzu hands the phone to Towada who then proceeds to apologize to him over the phone. When her mother heads back to Yamagata, Towada and Kazuha’s agent decide to head over there on a day off so that they can apologize to her father in person. Unfortunately, Kuzu decides that he’s going as well (worst nightmare)

When she seems unsure, Koto takes Kazuha aside and explains to her that she should go home while she as she notices how much her parents have aged every time she goes home. Gozo in the meantime, refuses to permit Chitose to go on the trip, despite her constant whining.

Momoka bumps into Yae at an audition. When the two get chatting, Yae finds out that Momoka’s mother, Sakura is set to be on the next installment of Pure Para. When she later on lets her mother know about the results of the bonus footage, Momoka is disappointed about her mother’s response to receiving gravure offers.

The next morning, Momoka surprises Kuzuha and company at the train station. She comes under the pretense of checking out the Yamagata scenes and sights, but it’s actually just so she can temporarily escape her life of being overshadowed by her mother.

What will this trip accomplish for everyone? Will Kazuha make up with her father? Will Kuzu mess everything up even more? Probably. See you next time!

SOME SPOILERS AHEAD.

I’m not exactly liking the direction Renard’s story is going in this season. Or the story overall for that matter. The story we were teased in the first two episodes – that of Renard being the villain for the season, hunting down Nick and trying to get rid of him – seemed to be potentially far more interesting than what we’re getting now.

I would have preferred to see Evil Mayor Renard instead of Being Haunted By Ghost Meisner Renard, with Nick and the rest of Team Grimm simultaneously trying to stop him and Black Claw from taking over Portland (Is Black Claw even still a threat? Do the writers remember they exist?) while investigating the stick.

Last week’s episode promised Renard’s comeuppance was fast approaching, but I expected it to come through Black Claw – the evil organisation that’s none too pleased with him right now – not Meisner.

After a disturbing visitation from Ghost Meisner – in which the deceased member of the resistance shows Renard five dead versions of himself lying in his kitchen – Renard decides to do get rid of him. Renard has him extracted from his person with a spirit vaccum and Ghost Meisner apparently possess the pawn shop owner who facilitated the extraction. Meisner knocks out Renard and he wakes up in an empty version of the pawn shop, himself and Ghost Meisner the only occupants.

I can appreciate that Renard is maybe going to get what’s coming to him from someone he knows and betrayed, rather than from an organisation he has little contact with given that the members he knew are dead. I say “maybe” because it’s not clear yet what Meisner wants with him.

That being said, the development of his storyline in this episode was lackluster. The entire episode can be described as such, in fact. The best parts were Monroe and Rosalie finding out they’re having triplets and the hippopotamus wesen biting off the head of the cicada wesen. Other than that, the entire episode was pretty boring.

Nick didn’t do much besides investigate the cicada wesen. A wesen that is effectively immortal and lives buried underground for seven years, resurfacing for one day in order to find a thick and beautiful woman for him to consume when he goes back underground.

The cicada wesen as a character was uninteresting and the CGI for his woge was some of the worst in this history of Grimm. As was the CGI on his intended victim, the aforementioned hippopotamus wesen that bit off his head right as Nick, Wu and Hank were coming to her rescue. It was a very unexpected, blink and you’ll miss it moment that shocked me at first, but once I’d processed what had happened I found it to be kind of funny; she didn’t need them to come save her.

Nick had to run home and deal with Eve/Juliette after Adalind found her barely conscious in the tunnels.

Either I missed something or the writers never explicitly stated that Juliette was living in the tunnels until now. Previously it seemed like she just snuck in there to examine the stick, not that she’d taken up residence. Nor did they illustrate that she was unable to leave or give a sense of how long she was down there. And if she had been there the entire time, wouldn’t Diana have been sensing her since she moved into the loft? If so, why has she only now mentioned it to Adalind?

Eve/Juliette finally finished her wall carvings and they’re the same markings from the stick’s cloth, which Diana has also been drawing and glow under the light of her magic pink eyes. It seemed like the wall carvings may have called Diana into the tunnels, or the stick did. Either she has a connection to the stick and/or its runes or it’s just her undefined powers doing mysterious things like they always do.

And in the latest of late apologies, Adalind apologised to Eve/Juliette for everything she’s done to her. This moment failed to resonate with me because the second it happened my immediate thought was that the time for said apology had long since passed. It was also random and didn’t feel earned, narratively speaking; there was no arc exploring their changing relationship and coming to accept one another and Eve/Juliette forgiving her. It just happened.

Random thoughts:

  1. No really, how long was Eve/Juliette down in the tunnels?
  2. No dude, I think the food he’s look for is you.
  3. I like Renard’s new place too.
  4. What the…She’s wesen too?

Snapchat Files For Valuation

0

Snap Inc. has officially submitted documents to the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) to hold an initial public offering (IPO). The company is seeking to raise around $3 billion with a valuation between $20 billion and $25 billion.

Snap Inc. is the parent company of Snapchat and calls itself “a camera company” in the documents, filed for the listing at the New York Stock Exchange. Over $404 million in revenue was raised by the social networking company in the last year after it opened its gates to advertisers.

In the documents submitted to the SEC, Snap Inc had this to say:

Snap is a camera company.

We believe that reinventing the camera represents our greatest opportunity to improve the way that people live and communicate. Our products empower people to express themselves, live in the moment, learn about the world, and have fun together.

In the way that the flashing cursor became the starting point for most products on desktop computers, we believe that the camera screen will be the starting point for most products on smartphones. This is because images created by smartphone cameras contain more context and richer information than other forms of input like text entered on a keyboard. This means that we are willing to take risks in an attempt to create innovative and different camera products that are better able to reflect and improve our life experiences.

At the end of Q4 2016 Snapchat had 158 million daily active users, and this figure continues to grow. If this move to valuation goes well for Snap Inc, expect to see some interesting changes coming to Snapchat in the upcoming months.

How to Get Away With Murder S03E11 Recap

SOME SPOILERS AHEAD.

Can Frank catch a break? I hate that Bonnie and the others tried to pin everything that Annalise was being investigated for on Frank. Yes he volunteered as tribute, but he’s one of them. I understand that he messed up in a major way and is no one’s favourite person right now, but I feel like as much as they are trying to get Annalise out of jail, they should be trying to free him as well.

And the plan failed anyway because he ended up getting arrested as a co-conspirator to Annalise and not as the sole perpetrator. He spent the entire day sitting in an interrogation room trying to convince the police that he killed Wes because he found out that Laurel was having his baby. They rightfully didn’t believe him – he was lying – and Bonnie convincing Laurel to corroborate his story was ultimately useless.

There is no getting Annalise out of this. At least not yet and certainly not how they’ve been going about it. ADA Atwood is really trying very hard to nail Annalise. In many ways Annalise is a terrible person who has done a lot of terrible and illegal things; she is far from innocent. At some point and in some way she may well have to pay for everything she has done and this seems to be it.

That being said, although I know that ADA Atwood is just doing her job there seems to be something deeply personal about her pursuit of Annalise. She was right in not believing Frank, she was right in asking for more time to find evidence against Annalise when the detectives said they have enough to charge Frank and to let her go and she is right about everything.  But I don’t like her at all. Her motivation feels to me to be less about executing justice and more about a vendetta.

I really don’t know what Bonnie can do at this point to help Annalise. I feel like Annalise was little too hard on Bonnie for not being successful at the bail hearing. Bonnie is failing as a lawyer right now but that’s not entirely her fault. It’s ADA Atwood’s relentlessness. The woman is doing everything in her power to ensure that Annalise stays in jail. Whatever Bonnie comes up with, it’s going to have to be big.

Annalise’s jail adventures continue and it is absolutely miserable. I originally liked her younger bunk mate since her jabs at Annalise seemed to be somewhat friendly and playful, but now she’s turned into an absolute bitch for no real reason. But I guess that’s what jail is like?

It seems that Jasmine’s speech didn’t light the fire under Annalise that I wanted it to. She’s still dejected. But, at least when she was being bullied in the showers she stood up for herself. It was very apparent that she was terrified, but she at least tried to show a bit of that Annalise ferocity that we’re used to. I have no doubt in my mind that she would have gotten her ass handed to her, though. Annalise doesn’t strike me as a woman who can fight with fists.

I was very apprehensive when Annalise asked Jasmine to give her the razor. I didn’t think she was going to kill herself; she hasn’t hit rock bottom yet or reached the pinnacle of despair. I didn’t expect her to cut off her weave, though. I loved that later on we saw her with the spiral cornrows that the tracks were sown into. It’s such a powerful image when Viola Davis strips down on the show.

I honestly don’t enjoy watching Annalise in jail. It’s depressing.

I enjoyed seeing Michaela take charge of the remaining members of the Keating Five. I felt sorry for Oliver for getting threatened by her, but it needed to be done. She really is the only person being a grown up, as she said.

Her defense of Annalise to the university President was shocking because she is not her biggest fan and makes no attempts to hide it. I like the initiative she’s taking to protect everyone and that she’s taking care of Laurel and being there for her. It’s a much softer side to Michaela that we haven’t gotten to see much of until now, if at all.

Random thoughts:

  1. I miss Frank’s hair. Is it ever coming back?
  2. Why didn’t the detectives think to check the security footage to corroborate Frank’s story?
  3. Go Michaela!
  4. Connor is getting to be incredibly irritating.
  5. Can someone punch ADA Atwood already?
  6. Michaela and Asher are still the cutest!

Scandal S06E02 Recap

SOME SPOILERS AHEAD.

At the beginning of the episode I was having a hard time embracing Cryus as the mastermind behind Frankie’s murder. There really wasn’t anything as yet that was convincing evidence of his guilt. In fact, there wasn’t any evidence at all. But I did not want to believe that Liv was wrong, especially when she felt so strongly.

Then, at the end, Huck found the video of Cyrus and Frankie arguing. It’s still not enough for me to come down firmly on the side of “Cyrus did it”, but it’s enough to strengthen the idea that he had something to do with it. It was certainly enough for Fitz.

I’m not convinced that Nelson is the killer either. The conviction with which he proclaimed his innocence was very persuasive. I’m not ruling him out entirely; just because he said he didn’t do it doesn’t mean he didn’t do it. There is a ton of evidence against him and it lines up perfectly. Perhaps too perfectly. The evidence does feel somewhat fabricated.

I’m still 100% positive that there was a conspiracy behind Frankie’s death and I’m more inclined to believe, at this point, that maybe both Cryus and Nelson are being framed – Nelson clearly more so than Cyrus – by an unknown third party. Papa Pope did very readily volunteer Cryus.

I really don’t like what Abby did by enlisting Jake to intimidate Nelson into confessing. I can’t and don’t trust his confession at all because of that. I know that she’s just doing her job and I do like to see her throw around her power, but she was just infuriating in that moment.

I don’t really think I ship Mellie and Marcus. I do want her to be happy – the woman has suffered enough over the course of this series – and he does seem to truly give her that, but as Liv said, getting involved with him is something she cannot do if she wants to be President.

The second Liv gave Mellie that look as she was gushing about how in love with him she was, it was clear that Liv was gearing up to do what needed to be done; break them up.  That lecture she gave Mellie about Marcus’ apparent opportunistic ways was a test. And Mellie failed. The joy Mellie was feeling was clouding her judgement. We knew, Liv knew and Mellie knew that getting involved with Marcus would not do her career any favours

I also think Liv’s expression was her feeling bad for having to take away Mellie’s happiness.

I’m hoping, though, that Marcus wasn’t using Mellie to get ahead in his career and genuinely loved her.

I don’t think Cyrus’ offer of making her Vice President is a bad one. Granted that he didn’t kill Frankie, of course. I don’t exactly think that she should outright dismiss it.

Random thoughts:

  1. Stay away from him Mellie!
  2. I choose you Mellie.
  3. I just told you to stay away from him Mellie.
  4. Does Angela want Liv to kill her? Because that’s how she’d get Liv to kill her.
  5. I’m mad at Abby too Liv.
  6. Abby sit down and stop being such a busy body.

America’s Next Top Model C23E09 Recap

0

SOME SPOILERS AHEAD.

The eliminated contestants have returned and are vying for the spot that will be vacated by the girl who goes home at judging. I am so glad that they kept the comebacks. That was one thing about the later cycles of America’s Next Top Model that I was wondering if they had gotten rid of.

The announcement was made at the challenge, which was yet another dance related one. Tanisha Scott, the choreographer behind Drake’s “Hotline Bling” video, taught the girls a routine which they would use later in their music video shoot. The remaining girls and the eliminated girls were split into two squads and had to compete within their respective group for the role of squad leader. Squad A consisted of the remaining girls and Squad B was made up of the eliminated girls.

Marissa struggled with the choreography as she had in the last dance challenge. This time she handled herself a lot better than she had with Stacy. Walking away may have been unprofessional, but taking the time to gather herself was better than mouthing off. She wasn’t confrontational and she was composed when she returned.

Squad A did better as a group than Squad B. Paige looked like a peppy cheerleader and not a fierce model, but because she was the only dancer, she did execute the choreography very well. Marissa just failed with the dancing; she did not recover from earlier in the practice. Courtney did quite well with the dancing and was not as stiff as she had been in the last dance challenge, but she looked a little awkward. It was clear that she was trying and the effort paid off. Tatiana and Cody looked pretty good from what little of them was shown. I wish there had been a wider shot of Coryanne so we could have seen what she was doing.

Of the girls from Squad B whose performances we were shown, Binta was going hard but looked very stiff, Tash looked a bit uncoordinated and like she lacked rhythm but gave a lot of energy and Giah was a little awkward but she was very cute.

Can we just take a moment to applaud these girls, who are not dancers and have no background in it, for dancing in heels and not falling on their butts?

Kyle came back and immediately she and Marissa were distracted by each other. Marissa sat around griping about how terrible she was at the choreography but didn’t not at all get up to practise. She had no one but herself to blame for her shortcomings during the video shoot. What made her lack of effort all the more frustrating was the fact that Tanisha absolutely believed in her and had the upmost confidence in her ability.

The finished video was underwhelming exclusively because of the choice of music. I’m not sure if that was the actual music they used or if they switched it out when the episode aired because of usage rights. The music they used during the challenge was far better. The music did not fit at all and it’s unsuitability was incredibly distracting.

At judging the girls were split into their squads once again.

Paige ditched the cheerleader and brought the model; she looked amazing. Tatiana, surprisingly, did not look good; she was stiff and robotic and lost her face. Coryanne’s dancing looked like she was hitting the moves too hard, but her shot at the end looked great. Marissa was low energy and looked absent; she didn’t perform at all. Courtney was stiff but, as always, gave good face; she looked strong and the effort she put in showed. India’s face was stunning but the dancing…not so much; she too was stiff, but the styling on her was awesome. We could not see Cody’s face at all! She did work the hat well as Law said and I agreed with Ashley about her shoulder. There was so much blocking of her face going on.

Tash channelled Grace Jones flawlessly. Her face was strong and she looked like a bad ass. Her dancing could have been better but everything else made up for it. Kyle still cannot dance. Her face could have been better but it wasn’t particularly bad. Justine was just okay. Perhaps if she had had more time with th choreography she could have done better. She looked beautiful, though. Binta’s dancing was even worse than Kyle’s. I felt awkward watching her and I did not like her face at all. Cherish was trying way too hard to be sexy. She missed the mark by a mile and looked like a drunken fool. I was underwhelmed by Krislian, but the styling looked very good on her. Giah really impressed me; she looked beautiful and has always been beautiful but she never put anything behind it. This time she did. It was not as much as she could have but it was enough to impress.

I would have called Paige first instead of India. Paige was the whole package whereas India was only very good with her face. No surprise that Marissa went home and Tasha re-entered the competition; Marissa seemed to have checked out and Tash was by far the best performer of the eliminated girls. Her return, though, I don’t see boding well for Cody. I think that Cody will lose her confidence.

Random thoughts:

  1. They’re making Kyle dance again?
  2. Why is Cherish dancing in a hat?
  3. Giah: “Nobody’s here to make friends.” But you called Justine your best friend earlier.
  4. I love the styling for this video.
  5. I love Drew.
  6. Paige’s reaction faces during call outs are the best.

America’s Next Top Model C23E08 Recap

SOME SPOILERS AHEAD.

This week’s drama was brought to us by Courtney and Coryanne. Is it any surprise that Courtney is part of some drama yet again? She seems unable to avoid it.

After Courtney made a bit of a fuss about heir cutting board and got into it with some of the other girls, Coryanne decided that she had had enough of Courtney’s attitude and behaviour and would speak up about it. They were both being a little annoying to be honest. They were being a tad petty and mean in the interviews that intercut their conversation. But I applaud them for not resorting to shouting at each other as is usual.

I’m a little proud of Coryanne for taking a stand and speaking up and also surprised since she is on of the quieter girls in the house. Look at that face. Does she look like anyone who would be confrontational? Then one time that she was, she felt bad about it and went and apologised to Courtney.

In my opinion Coryanne didn’t really do anything that warranted an apology, but it shows a great deal more maturity on her part. Applause to her. By her doing that, we found out a lot about Courtney that certainly puts her into perspective; she was homeless for a year and a half and didn’t have any friends at school because her mother was an extreme hoarder who kicked her out when she was sixteen with pretty much nothing to survive on.

Courtney had it rough and I definitely understand her better and can sympathise with her. But I don’t think the tragedy of her past excuses some of her behaviour thus far in the competition. I do, however, admire the strength it must have taken for her to get where she is now and to have survived her ordeal. I can see how and why she and Coryanne would clash – Coryanne being the complete opposite, having been raised fairly well off if not wealthy – and what Courtney meant when she said she never got anything she wanted.

For the challenge the girls were outfitted in Philip Plein’s latest collection and were tasked with creating a sort of “live editorial.” They posed in pairs in different rooms as guests attended a party at Plein’s home.

Paige and Binta didn’t do much of anything. After hearing the idea for the story they wanted to tell – they were lesbian lovers – I didn’t really get a feel for that from what was shown. They didn’t exactly pull it off and they were a little boring. There is a reason no one was in their room when Law, Philip and Drew stopped by.

Coryanne looked like she was in her element; like a woman who was used to the life of luxury (and she kind of is). She looked beautiful in the gown and she gave a very good performance. Tatiana pretty much literally faded into the background. In just about the only shot that she was in as they were executing the challenge, she was standing behind Coryanne and was in soft focus. We didn’t really get to see her.

Marissa and Cody were stunning and fierce. Their facial expressions and their posing was on point. The acting was cringe-worthy, though, since Marissa cannot act. Aside from that, they did very well and were my favourites. I myself did not mind their shouting but Courtney and India did.

Courtney and India were being very presumptuous in their assumption that Philip would not have liked it. In fact, he expressed quite the opposite and the guests praised and responded positively to Marissa and Cody. What they thought mattered because Philip was not the judge. Furthermore, they could only hear Marissa and Cody. They did not see what they were doing so how could they judge?

They themselves were mediocre at best and didn’t do anything; not with their faces and not with their posing. They were very “blah.” Courtney lying on the bed was rather confusing because no one can see the clothing if she is lying down.

No surprise here, Marissa and Cody won so they ended up eating their words.

At the photo shoot the girls posed on a private jet with Jason Derulo.

Marissa looked like a video vixen and not like a model. Her photo looked like a still from a music video and not like an image from a high end fashion campaign. The styling didn’t help much with that either. She didn’t scream “the high life” to me. Marissa herself and the photo on the whole is not bad – I do like it – but it didn’t capture what they were going for. India’s photo was absolutely incredible! She looked sexy, fierce and confident. She commanded that photo. She outshined Jason Derulo and the clothing looked amazing on her. Paige’s photo didn’t jump out at me. It took me a while to find something to say about it. I liked the arch of her back and the pose on the whole was fine. Her face was kind of “blah” and the clothes looked good. Binta’s was less than okay. She could have done a lot more with her body and didn’t look like she was trying. She looked like a celebrity that got caught by the paparazzi, but not in a good way.

Click for full size image.

Tatiana looked like a boss! Her pose, her face and just everything was perfection.  She owned the photo. She looked like an R&B diva and not a model but the photo is fabulous nonetheless. Coryanne really underperformed; she has done so much better before. She wasn’t giving anything with the pose or her face. It was very underwhelming. Cody’s face in her photo was extraordinarily amazing. Her legs were gorgeous. She looked like a lioness and a Queen. She looked powerful, alluring and ferocious. I didn’t like Courtney’s photo. Her pose was awkward and tilting her head back the way she did made her look bored. Her photo was not impressive.

Click for full size image.

I don’t think that Tatiana should have gotten best photo and I don’t even think she should have been second; those spots belonged to Cody and India, respectively. I was not surprised or upset that Binta went home. As I suspected, she didn’t hug or say goodbye to the girls as she left, or it simple wasn’t shown.

Random thoughts:

  1. It was nice that all of the girls were happy for India winning best photo.
  2. Law with his hair down!
  3. I wonder if the contestants who win challenge prizes sell them when they go home.
  4. Barbados shout out!
  5. They’re still doing comebacks!

America’s Next Top Model now airs on Wednesdays at 10 PM on VH1.

Samsung Will Tease For MWC

0

Samsung, the South Korean tech giant, has scheduled a press event for the upcoming MWC (Mobile World Congress) in Barcelona Spain on February 26th. Even though the much anticipated Galaxy S8 will not be the main attraction, there is the promise of a possible tease for the upcoming device.

The press invitations revealed the event will be about the Galaxy Tab S3. This tablet is said to pack a 9.6″ AMOLED screen of 2,048 x 1,535 px, Snapdragon 820 chip, a 13MP camera, and to come in LTE and Wi-Fi models.

The previous Tab S2 was a big hit for the device maker, so releasing the successor to that at MWC is a good move to make while we wait for the S8 to come out.

Samsung usually unveils its new S series phones at MWC, however, the launch has been delayed to April. This is of course due to the safety issues triggered by the Note 7 fiasco last year.

Grimm S06E04 Recap

SOME SPOILERS AHEAD.

It’s becoming very apparent just how much Nick screwed up Renard’s life when he transformed into Renard and gave up being mayor and just how far reaching the consequences of his actions could be. Not that I think Nick cares, to be honest, or even realises for that matter. Renard’s reckoning is coming and it seems to be coming pretty fast.

Black Claw is not at all happy that all of the work they put into making Renard mayor has not paid off. They are pissed and not accepting any excuses, no matter how good they are; he did have a very good excuse for why it happened after all. Renard getting angry and snippy with them really isn’t helping his situation. Couple this with the threat that the police officer who was supposed to replace him as captain made and things aren’t exactly looking up for Renard going into the rest of the season.

On top of that, he’s having hallucinations of Meissner who never misses an opportunity to tell him that he made a mistake by aligning himself with Black Claw. Renard should probably think twice about openly interacting with Ghost Meissner if Nick, Hank and Wu’s reaction to seeing it is any indication.

On the brighter side of Renard’s life, he still has Diana and got to spend some father-daughter time with her in this episode. It was sweet and all but was ruined by Renard actively teaching Diana to hate Nick. He knows exactly what he’s doing here beyond just creating strife and making sure he as an ally (and superweapon). It’s no coincidence, I think, that they discussed Diana using him to kill Bonaparte as well.

Speaking of Diana, how does Adalind not know where her power comes from? She has to at least suspect that it has something to do with the Contaminatio Ritualis she performed to get her powers back while she was pregnant. What with all of the skulls on her belly and everything.

Just as I suspected it would, the stick has started to turn on Eve/Juliette. She is the only person on the team currently trying to find out more about it and get to the bottom of what it is, what it does and where it came from. She just happened to enter the tunnels at the precise moment Nick was expressing his love for Adalind, of course. She must really be doing a good job of hiding the re-emergence of her emotions since Trubel was the only one who noticed.

I kind of feel bad for Eve/Juliette. She’s been getting the short end of stick since pretty much the very beginning of this show and it’s only gotten worse for her.

In any case, the stick burned her (and called out to Nick?) and left one of the marks she saw on the dead man’s face – and the cloth it was wrapped in – on her palm. If the stick was trying to stop her snooping, branding her with a mark she is trying to find out more about perhaps was not the best method.

As to the monster of the week, it was one of the ugliest wesen we have ever seen. It was quite obvious that his motivation for kidnapping baby Auggie was to prevent a future tragedy of which the child would be the perpetrator. I wasn’t expecting that el Cuegle actually ate them considering the somewhat “noble” reasoning behind his actions. Kill the baby, sure, but not eat it. Maybe even try to raise it so it doesn’t have that future. In a “Would you kill baby Hitler?” kind of way.

I thought that maybe the whole baby eating thing was a misunderstanding made by past Grimms.

Random thoughts:

  1. Diana is such a daddy’s girl.
  2. Diana is Carrie now?
  3. Monroe you are not the only one afraid of Diana.
  4. How many buns are in Rosalie’s oven?!
  5. Auggie’s dad is being really unhelpful.
  6. Rosalie does make a good point about Nick attracting trouble and Portland perhaps not being safe.
  7. How long was Eve/Juliette in that basement?
  8. I’d wish Auggie the best of luck but we all know those horrid parents of his are going to screw him up.
