What sparked your interest in visual art?
I’ve always been interested in visual arts. Throughout my childhood, I was always drawing and sketching whatever caught my interest. It was always my creative outlet, but I never thought of pursuing it seriously until now; it was just something that came naturally to me. So, to answer your question, my interest in visual arts was always there, almost as if it was innate.
What other careers did you consider, if any? And why did you ultimately choose not to pursue them?
I pursued Architecture because it was a form of art that the world seemed to take seriously. When I was really young, I wanted to be an artist, but as I grew older, my aspirations changed to becoming an architect. Now, I’ve come full circle; back to embracing my life as an artist.
What are some goals that you have yet to achieve, if any?
One of my biggest goals is to have a solo exhibition; somewhere grand in a large space abroad or something. However, a solo show in Barbados is something that I definitely have as a goal. At the moment, I’m focused on building a stronger, larger body of work to make that vision a reality.
What do you think makes you unique as an artist?
I don’t think there’s any one thing that makes me unique as an artist. It’s more the combination of everything: my subject interests, my mediums, my art style, and my personal taste. The way all of those elements come together is what makes my work distinctive.
What does “perfection” mean to you? Do you think that it’s worth pursuing?
I think perfection is an impossible pursuit, but in pursuing it, people become great. The more you strive for it, the better you become at something. However, I believe you have to understand it conceptually rather than literally, or else you’ll get lost. Yes, I think it’s worth pursuing; everyone should try to pursue perfection in something in life.
