Why have you chosen to be a designer? What is your “raison d’être”?
Design chose me long before I chose it. I’ve always seen fashion as a language — a way to express culture, emotion, and identity without saying a word. For me, designing is about storytelling through texture, color, and movement. My “raison d’être” is to honor my Barbadian roots and Indian heritage by weaving them into contemporary, luxurious pieces that empower the wearer to feel both grounded in tradition and elevated in self-expression.
What would you say is the best decision you’ve made in your career thus far?
The best decision I’ve made was to stay true to my vision — even when others doubted its place in the luxury space. Choosing to base ARISAR in Barbados, rather than relocating, allowed me to build something authentic to who I am and where I come from. It became a symbol that world-class design can emerge from small islands, and that our stories have global resonance.
Who is the one person that you would love to design something for?
I would love to design for Rihanna, Zendaya or Beyonce . They embody the balance of strength, grace, and individuality that ARISAR stands for. They are also unafraid to take creative risks and elevate fashion into art — something that deeply resonates with my design philosophy.
What does “perfection” mean to you? Do you think that it’s worth pursuing?
Perfection, to me, is not about flawlessness — it’s about harmony. It’s when the design, craftsmanship, and emotion of a piece align seamlessly. I don’t chase perfection; I chase intention. True beauty often lies in the human touch — the subtle irregularities that make something one of a kind.
What do you ultimately want to achieve with your work?
Ultimately, I want my work to celebrate Caribbean excellence on a global stage. I want ARISAR to become a legacy brand — one that empowers artisans, uplifts the region’s creative economy, and inspires a new generation to see luxury as something that can be homegrown. My goal is to leave behind more than beautiful garments — I want to leave behind impact, pride, and possibility.
