Amanda Reifer’s ‘Bang Bang’ Music Video Is Here

0

In case you missed it, Amanda Reifer last week released her fourth single as a solo artist. Like with some of her other singles, the accompanying YouTube video featured a looping snippet – a preview, if you will – of the music video yet to come. Now fans of the sultry singer can see the music video in full.

After a few days of teases, Reifer dropped what is her sexiest music video to date. She drags a dead body (wrapped in a sheet) across a desert wearing a body harness and lingerie along with a wide brimmed hat, a sheer top and pants and a trench coat. She is later seen lying in a hot tub and dancing in a mobile home in a white top, blue lace panty and body harness and again in her earlier clothing – without the hat and trench coat – burying the dead body. Reifer did her own styling for the video.

“Bang Bang” – possibly inspired by the Nancy Sinatra classic of the same name – was written by Reifer and produced by Charlie Heat, who has worked with artists like Madonna, Kanye West, Travis Scott, Lil Uzi Vert, Pusha T and Khelani, and mixed and mastered by Michael McCall.

The music video was directed by Reifer’s Cover Drive band mate Jamar Harding and edited by both. Reifer handled creative direction and the video was coloured by Walter Cavatoi.

Last year’s Sweet Soca King and six-time Party Monarch, Lil Rick, came in second place with seventy-five points. His song “Jam Down”, which he performed with The Mighty Grynner, was the second Power Soca entry of the night. Lil Rick went home with $30,000 BBD.

MEDIA RELEASE: D’Junction App Uses Tech to Enhance the Crop Over Experience

0

Bridgetown, BARBADOS; July 25, 2019 : During its second year in Barbados, the D’Junction app is poised to offer guidance to Kadooment revelers enjoying the new and expanded route in 2019. The app also has a bonus safety feature that includes a panic button.

Ria Karim.

“These important features allow masqueraders to maximize their time by being able to navigate directly to the band using an interactive map. For those ‘following’ the bands seeking friends and family, the band is a helpful tracking device,” explained Ria Karim, creator.

“This year, the app has a bonus feature – it can help mitigate against potential threats to personal safety that may arise when searching aimlessly for a band – especially for visitors who may be unfamiliar with the layout of the land. The free app’s SafeT feature, can be customized among individuals and groups,” Karim noted. This Panic Alert gives users the option to create a closed group of friends/family members who can be alerted via a panic button with chat interface in the event of an emergency.

“The app therefore truly adds logistical and technological efficiencies to our Caribbean Festivals, and to cater to personal safety concerns by locals and tourists alike,” Karim added.

Long in use in Trinidad, the app was introduced to Barbados in 2018 and welcomed by this country’s Ministry of Culture. Its pilot with Baje International and Blue Box Cart was so well received that local business stalwart, Chefette, has entered into a three-year partnership with D’Junction.

As part of the app’s partnership with Chefette, the local restaurant chain’s locations across the island is displayed on the band locator map, allowing users to easily navigate to the Chefette location closest to them.

“The app happens to provide support to the bands we sponsor, others and the general public. From a corporate perspective we saw its presence as tech helping to digitize the traditional Crop Over experience – and brings an additional layer of safety to the festival,” said Ryan Haloute, Managing Director of Chefette.

For 2019, the ‘mobile app’ has partnered with major Crop Over bands Baje International, Blue Box Cart, Krave and Zulu International to allow users to easily track these bands real time, on the road during the festivities. The band will also offer tracking to Project X during its Foreday Morning experience.

“Given the recent announcement that there will now be two assembly points and therefore routes for bands (from Warrens and the National Botanical Gardens), this feature will undoubtedly become more of a necessity than a convenience for masqueraders during the course of the Grand Kadooment,” stated Richard Haynes of Baje.

“In 2019, D’Junction has truly become a Caribbean brand, now playing a pivotal role in Trinidad and Tobago Carnival, Jamaica Carnival and Barbados Crop Over. By 2020, we expect to have an even greater presence in the region’s and international diaspora’s carnivals the world over. I envision the app as filling the void for an all-encompassing app that many have come to expect when attending large festivals the world over,” Karim said.

The app serves as a free, versatile platform for entrepreneurs in the Crop Over industry to promote their events and bands to a global audience.

The app is powered by Air Support Tactical and sponsored by The Abidah by Accra and EZ Transport Services for Crop Over 2019.

ICYMI: NCF Releases 1937 Labour Rebellion Radio Drama and Comic

0

Last Monday the National Cultural Foundation (NCF) announced the commencement of its Day of National Significance Public Awareness Campaign. As part of the campaign, the NCF has produced a radio drama and published a comic. Both are inspired by the 1937 Labour Rebellion, which the Day of National Significance commemorates ever year on July 26th. They are adapted from the Michelle Cox play How Hard The Times, which is based on a poetry collection written by Anthony Hinkson, her father.

The radio drama airs on Mondays on VOB 92.9 at 6:15 p.m. and repeats on Q100.7 at 8:45 p.m. Episodes are available for download on the NCF website at 9:00 p.m. Scripted by prolific Barbadian writer Shakirah Bourne, the radio drama stars Peta Alleyne as Maisie, Simon Alleyne as Neville, Shannon Arthur as Keith and Older Keith, Brandon Blackman as M.C and Big Benjie, Kyle Cozier as Briggs, Patrick Foster as Major Thorpe, Janelle Gilkes as Kemar and Pearl and Daana Linton as Betty.

The first five pages of the comic were released on June 21st at 8:00 p.m. and new pages will be issued every Friday thereafter for five weeks until July 26th, the Day of National Significance. The comic is adapted and drawn by Nigel Lynch and Tristan Roach of Beyond Publishing Caribbean, respectively. Beyond Publishing Caribbean is a Barbadian comics and graphic novel publishing company, responsible for the Barbadian created comics Hard Ears, Life and Death in Paradise and Heartman, among others. It is coloured and edited by Edward “King” Bola and Kamaria Connell, respectively.

Ayesha Gibson-Gill, Literary Arts Cultural Officer at the NCF and producer of this segment of the campaign, said to the Foundation:

“It will demonstrate that we have interesting stories and amazing artists…It is a way to engage with history that is not necessarily being taught at all levels in the schools anymore in a very light, interactive and fun way…We absorbed it and gave it our own aesthetic. It is so beautifully rendered that comic book geeks of all ages will be interested.”

This year’s efforts are a departure from the NCF’s past observance of the day, which has included stage theatre and folk concerts. The decision to create a radio drama and comic book was made in order to “[attract] an expanded audience of differing age demographics…”

Krisirie’s ‘Long Time Love’ Music Video Debuts

Bajan singer Kristen “Krisirie” Walker released the music video for her latest single “Long Time Love” last evening, almost eight weeks after the song debuted.

The video, shot in Barbados, showcases scenes of Barbadiana and features three dancers from the Barbadian dance group Riddim Tribe – Aisha, Ghelisa and Nandi – along with shots of Krisirie herself in various locations (on the beach, on a cliff, in a Barbadian souvenir shop, in a field, in a dilapidated windmill and dancing with Aisha and Ghelisa).

Produced by Walker and Leena Khatib, shot by Alexander James and with creative direction by local visual artist Shane Eastmond and editing by Jaycloud, “Long Time Love” is the third music video released by Walker. She previously released music videos for her singles “For You” and “Wind Blows” in 2018 and 2015, respectively.
