The Emmy winning, controversial, Comedy Central animated series South Park premiered on August 13th, 1997 and was created by Trey Parker (46) and Matt Stone (45) after they met at the University of Colorado. Since then it has continued to see a great deal of success, firmly planting itself into the global pop culture mainstream with its biting and hilarious commentary on American culture.
Of the show Parker said to Vanity Fair –
“I think our biggest strength is that we have a show that we completely make in one building in six days, and then we’re on to the next one. And there is a momentum to that.”
The show, which is famous for its crude humour, irreverence and fearlessness in addressing even the most sensitive of topics, released a trailer for the 20th season earlier this summer that parodied overly sentimental father/daughter relationship ads, as well as a video of fans discussing about what the love about the series.
The first episode of season 20 premieres tonight on Comedy Central at 10 pm.
