Footage from the Hollywood adaptation of the classic manga and anime franchise created by Masamune Shirow hit the internet today. The teasers introduce some of the characters that will be seen in the film and offer a glimpse into its world.
The production faced criticism and accusations of white washing when Scarlett Johannson – a Caucasian actress – was cast as as Major Motoko Kusanagi – a Japanese character.
Also starring in the film are Pilou Asbæk, Michael Pitt, Takeshi Kitano, Chin Han, Lasarus Ratuere and Juliette Binoch. Rupert Sanders serves as the director of the film with screenwriting done by Jonathan Herman and Jamie Moss.
The synopsis of the film reads;
“Based on the internationally-acclaimed sci-fi property, Ghost in the Shell follows the Major, a special ops, one-of-a-kind human-cyborg hybrid, who leads the elite task force Section 9. Devoted to stopping the most dangerous criminals and extremists, Section 9 is faced with an enemy whose singular goal is to wipe out Hanka Robotic’s advancements in cyber technology.”
Ghost in the Shell will be released on March 31st, 2017.
