After the not-so-critically-acclaimed Suicide Squad movie hit theatres this summer, rumours have been circulating that there will be a Harley Quinn spin-off film starring Margot Robbie, whom many saw as the best part of the aforementioned film.
These rumours now seem to have been confirmed.
The Australian actress has signed a deal with Warner Bros, which The Hollywood Reporter describes as:
“…a first-look deal with the studio…to develop and produce feature films through her LuckyChap Entertainment banner.”
The production company – which Robbie established with Tom Ackerley, Josey McNamara and Sophia Kerr – has several projects in the works. These include a Tonya Harding biopic, I, Tonya the neo-noir thriller Terminal and an adaptation of the Matt Ruff novel Bad Monkeys, all of which she will star in.
Robbie has had an ongoing relationship with Warner Bros outside of the DCEU; she starred in The Legend of Tarzan and Focus which were distributed by the studio.
The 26-year-old Robbie has skyrocketed to fame and critical acclaim in a very short period. Acting professionally since 2008, her break out role came just three years ago in 2013’s The Wolf of Wall Street where she starred opposite Leonardo DiCaprio and was directed by the legendary Martin Scorsese.
The Harley Quinn spin-off movie is in the very early stages of development and there has been no word yet as to when it will be released.
