The trailer for the second instalment in the Fifty Shades of Grey film franchise was today released by Universal Pictures.
The upcoming film, set to hit theatres on February 10th 2017, sees the return of Dakota Johnson and Jamie Dornan as the innocent, Anastasia Steel and the eponymous Christian Grey, respectively.
Based on the second novel in E L James’ trilogy, the film also features new comers to the franchise, Oscar, Golden Globe and SAG Award winning actress Kim Basinger as Elena Lincoln, Emmy Award nominated actor Hugh Dancy as Dr. John Flynn, Bella Heathcote as Leila Williams, Eric Johnson as Jack Hyde, Robinne Lee as Ros Bailey, Faye Masterson as Gail Jones and Tyler Hoechlin as Boyce Fox.
“When a wounded Christian Grey tries to entice a cautious Ana Steele back into his life, she demands a new arrangement before she will give him another chance. As the two begin to build trust and find stability, shadowy figures from Christian’s past start to circle the couple, determined to destroy their hopes for a future together.”
The film was written by Niall Leonard, James’ husband.
Sam Taylor-Johnson, the director of Fifty Shades of Grey, has been replaced by James Foley. Taylor-Johnson reportedly left the franchise due to creative differences with James.
Universal Pictures Chairman Donna Langley told the Hollywood Reporter in April 2015 that the film would be “more of a thriller” than the first.
Yesterday Universal Pictures released a teaser trailer and a poster for the film ahead of today’s full trailer, which features a version of Beyoncé’s “Crazy in Love” – a slower version of which was used in the teaser trailer for the first film – sung by Miguel.
Although a critical failure, the previous instalment in the franchise, Fifty Shades of Grey, was a financial success; it made $571 million dollars worldwide on a $40 million dollar budget.
The film was shot back to back in Vancouver and Paris with the third film in the franchise, Fifty Shades Freed which will be released in February 9th, 2018.
