10 New TV Series To Give A Chance This Summer

As new shows which have yet to be seen, these ten new series that will be premiering this summer have as much potential to be good as they do to be bad, but do show some promise that they’ll at the very least be entertaining. If you read yesterday’s list of 10 Returning Series To Watch This Summer, some of your favourite shows may have turned up on that list (perhaps all of them) and others may not have. Either way, your summer 2017 TV watch list may well be pretty full. That being the case, perhaps in this list you can find at least one more show you’re willing to make time for.

#1. Castlevania – July 6

Will Air On: Netflix

Genre: Anime/Action/Adventure/Horror

Starring: Richard Armitage, James Callis and Graham McTavish

Synopsis: A vampire hunter fights to save a besieged city from an army of otherworldly beasts controlled by Dracula himself. Inspired by the classic video games. – Netflix.

#2. The Defiant Ones – July 9

Will Air On: HBO

Genre: Documentary Mini-series

Synopsis: Set amid many of the defining events of the past four decades, The Defiant Ones tells the stories of Jimmy Iovine and Dr. Dre — one the son of a Brooklyn longshoreman, the other straight out of Compton — and their improbable partnership and surprising leading roles in a series of transformative events in contemporary culture. From director Allen Hughes (Menace II Society) this revealing, compelling and often-gritty story takes place in recording studios, in humble homes and massive mansions, in criminal courts and in the highest corridors of corporate power. – HBO.

#3. Will – July 10

Synopsis: Will tells the wild story of young William Shakespeare’s (Laurie Davidson) arrival onto the punk-rock theater scene in 16th century London — the seductive, violent world where his raw talent faced rioting audiences, religious fanatics and raucous side-shows. It’s a contemporary version of Shakespeare’s life, played to a modern soundtrack that exposes all his recklessness, lustful temptations and brilliance. – TNT.

#4. Midnight, Texas – July 24

Will Air On: NBC

Genre: Supernatural/Fantasy/Drama/Mystery

Starring: François Arnaud, Dylan Bruce, Parisa Fitz-Henley, Arielle Kebbel, Sarah Ramos, Peter Mensah, Yul Vazquez and Sean Bridgers.

Synopsis: Welcome to a place where being normal is really quite strange. From Niels Arden Oplev, the visionary director of “Mr. Robot,” and based on the hit book series from author Charlaine Harris (“True Blood”), comes a journey into a remote Texas town where no one is who they seem. From vampires and witches to psychics and hit men, Midnight is a mysterious safe haven for those who are different. As the town members fight off outside pressures from rowdy biker gangs, ever-suspicious cops and their own dangerous pasts, they band together and form a strong and unlikely family. – NBC.

#5. The Last Tycoon – July 28

Will Air On: Amazon

Genre: Drama

Starring: Matt Bomer, Kelsey Grammer, Lily Collins and Dominique McElligott.

Synopsis: From F. Scott Fitzgerald’s last work, The Last Tycoon follows Monroe Stahr, Hollywood’s Golden Boy as he battles father figure and boss Pat Brady for the soul of their studio. In a world darkened by the Depression and the growing influence of Hitler’s Germany, The Last Tycoon illuminates the passions, violence and towering ambition of 1930s Hollywood. – Amazon.

Synopsis: Set in a single room of an average American motel, Room 104 tells a different story of the assorted characters who pass through it in each episode. – HBO.

#7. The Sinner – Aug 2

Will Air On: USA

Genre: Drama

Starring: Jessica Biel, Bill Pullman, Christopher Abbott, Abby Miller and Dohn Norwood.

Synopsis: An eight episode close-ended series, The Sinner follows a young mother (Jessica Biel) who, when overcome by an inexplicable fit of rage, commits a startling act of violence and to her horror has no idea why. The event launches an inverted and utterly surprising crime thriller whose driving force is not the “who” or the “what” — but the “why” — as an investigator (Bill Pullman) finds himself obsessed with uncovering the woman’s buried motive. #8. The Story of Diana – Aug 9 & Aug 10

Will Air On: ABC

Genre: Documentary Mini-series

Synopsis: From ABC and Time Inc.’s People, “The Story of Diana” is a four-hour primetime television event on the extraordinary life of Princess Diana. Debuting over two nights, the documentary marks the 20th anniversary of her tragic passing at age 36 and will capture the most comprehensive interviews ever conducted on the woman known as the People’s Princess: in-depth conversations with those who knew her best, as well as the world’s leading Diana experts. #10. Marvel’s The Defenders – Aug 18

Will Air On: Netflix

Genre: Superhero/Drama/Action

Starring: Charlie Cox, Krysten Ritter, Mike Colter, Finn Jones, Rosario Dawson, Sigourney Weaver, Elden Henson, Élodie Yung, Deborah Ann Woll, Scott Glenn, Rachel Taylor, Carrie-Anne Moss, Eka Darville, Simone Missick and Jessica Henwick.

Synopsis: It will take an epic team of heroes to save New York City. Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Iron Fist and Luke Cage come together as The Defenders. – Netflix.
